Send to folder based on Subject

Postby MSWallack » Thu Feb 09, 2012 5:56 pm

In a group that is set to automatically download, is it possible to create a filter or rule that causes NewsBin to download files with a subject that matches certain criteria to a different folder than the default folder used for files in that group?

There's not a generic scripting language to allow that at this time, no. There are a number of methods, however, such as specific folders per group, mp3 parsing, etc., and the Newsbin guys are always improving the product. Is there a sort of thing in particular you're looking to deal with? Please be generic in terms of descriptions...

The particular group has lots of stuff that I'm interested in (hence the automatic download). However, there is on subset of files that are always given a particular subject prefix (for example: New files for Feb. 03 - filename.rar) and are always from the same sender.

Afaik, no, nothing in there at this time that could handle that. I don't think it would be a bad idea at all to allow keywords in subjects to trigger custom download paths, though. Quade has mentioned in irc that the whole custom path thing is currently a series of duct tape gadgets, they're scattered all over the package and don't have a consistent interface. At some point he'd like to revisit the whole schmeer and make it at the very least a little neater, and certainly something like this would be a good thing to introduce, Imho.

I'm not averse to the idea but, there's nothing there now to do it. Not automatically.

I can add it to the todo list to consider.

OK. Thanks for the help. I didn't think that there was a way, but hey, it never hurts to ask. Adding that sort of a feature in the future would be really great. I can think of all sorts of keyword filterning that I might want to try...
