File Downloads Blocked and I've added Giganews

Postby Cougar24 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:23 am

Hello,

I'm very new to using UseNet, so there is a very high probability that I'm not doing something right. I just subscribed to Newsbin and when I try to download something now, it says "File Downloads Blocked". I've set up Giganews and it lists it active under the 'Servers' tab, so I'm guessing that I input everything correctly in there. I don't know if I'm searching for files on only the 'Internet Search Service', or what... Could someone help me out?

You are using our optional Internet Search service. It allows you free searches of Usenet but only subscribers to this service can queue search results for download. This is separate from your News Server subscription (which is with Giganews) and separate from the one time purchase of a key to Newsbin. If you read the rest of the message under the "File Downloads Blocked" header, it explains all this, tells you the cost of the optional service, and tells you how to subscribe.

Yea, the thing is is that I want to turn off the optional Internet Search service, but I don't know how. I only want to use Newsbin to search for files on Giganews. How do I do that?

You have to switch the setting from "Internet" to local on the search page.

I tried that, but when I try to search for something with 'Local' on, it says:

You can't just search Giganews, you have to download the header information from giganews and then search through that.

1 - Subscribe to some groups

2 - Right click "Download all Headers" on the group

3 - Wait awhile

4 - When it's done, you can search through what you downloaded.
