How do u add files to duplicate dector DB

Postby tonylamb » Sat Jan 21, 2012 12:55 pm

I have over 200k files that i downloaded already. i don't want to re download them again when using newsbin 6

is there a way to add them to the Duplicate DB like the old sig generator in version 4.3 otherwise the program is unusabe since when i go to a group i would be downloading things i have already d/l and would have dupes of everything unless i saw it and realized i had d/l before

Discussion message thread: Signature Generator Version 6

Notes:

1. I strongly suggest that you make a backup copy of the target signature.db3 file before using the Signature Generator.

2. I've found that the Signature Generator doesn't process files located in folders (Or files?) named using Chinese Hanzi or Japanese Kanji characters.

3. Don't immediately exit from the signature generator utility following it's displayed announcement that it's done and your clicking of the OK button, as processing sometimes continues after that announcement. Wait until all of the temporary files (Downloads.db3-shm, Downloads.db3-wal, and SIGNATURE.db3-journal created by the utility, which are created in the same folder as the target signature.db3 file, have been deleted by the utility. If you exit to early those files are left open(?) and will either prevent Newsbin from running at all, or prevent the addition of subsequently downloaded files to the signature.db3 file.

I'll have to check that out. There's no reason it can't work. Probably some place in the code that didn't get upgraded.

EDIT:

I'm not finding this to be true. Not with the latest version.

I've just sent you an email with an attached RAR file which contains an example folder/subfolder, hoping that you'll be able to recreate the problem I described for yourself.

Please accept my advance apology if the problem turns out to be at my end, and has nothing to do with the Signature Generator utility.

Is your version newer than that which can presently be downloaded using this link, which is the same I provided in my first response to this message thread?

When the Signature Generator is running it shows as being SigGenerator Version 6.1. However, Mouse clicking Help --> About, from it's menu bar, shows "SigGenerator 2.5".

Windows 7 shows the file properties for the version I'm using as being:

Product Name: SigGenerator
File Version: 1.0.0.1
Product Version: 1.0.0.1
Date Modified: 10/2/2011 11:58 AM
Size: 2.14 MB (2,251,264 bytes)
Size on Disk: 2.14 MB (2,252,800 bytes)

If your version if newer than my version, would you mind sharing a copy of yours with me?

Thank you for providing and maintaining the Signature Generator utility. It is very helpful to me. I use it primarily to add the signatures of files I've downloaded from the internet, which might also be available for download from usenet newsgroups so as to prevent downloading duplicates to files which I already have.
