Going Nuts! Force Download a Previously downloaded file

I downloaded a file , with 3 major 700 MB files as they completed

For some reason, I lost the number 3 file

When I try to re-download, using a NZB search engine, I find the file I am missing, I created a NZB and it launches Newsbin

For some reason it remembers I downloaded it previously a while back, and it says downloaded in the Newsbin Task List

I cannot Force it to re-download and its driving me crazy

I also did a Full Search in Win 7 of the dir to fins it, and its not there

So to Recap

1- I downloaded it a while back
2- I re create teh NZB and Newsbin tells me it has downloaded it before and refuses to do so again
3- I do a Search in my download dir, and the original or new files are nopt there

Unless I'm not understanding your problem, I'd think that "ctrl-Y" (or 'add to download list - bypass filters) would solve your problem. Load the nzb manually, highlight it and press "ctrl-Y"

I always use this feature just as a general force of habit. As has been pointed out, the software is checking for duplicates. When it sees the file has been previously downloaded, it rejects the file(s) as duplicates. Bypassing the filters (as described above), however, should solve that problem.

That *is* a missing file being downloaded (CTRL+Y). It just seems to disappear afterwards.

Do you actually see an rv file created on disk? Does it get renamed? Then it disappears? Or do you just mean it goes into the download queue then goes away? These are radically different things.

Also, from what you wrote, I get no indication you actually tried what Quade suggested. Did you actually try to add the single missing file only?

Ctl-Y should now be bypassing everything in the latest release, including spam filters. Even then, you should be getting clear messages in the logging tab or in the status of what's going on.

where would/should that "rv" file be located?

no offense, but I think you didn't read my posts too thoroughly. I stated nearly in every post concerning this matter, how a single, missing file is loaded - via CTRL+Y. And as I said in my post above, I know how NB should behave when doing that, but NB doesn't.
And the log above shows what's going on, when retrying a single file (CTRL+Y). It clearly shows a download, but the file gets written nowhere.

Pause newsbin, select Ctrl-Y on the one file, then while it's sitting there in the download list, right click "Assign a New Path" to some other path, "C:\temp\" or something and then unpause and see if the download completes. When it starts downloading, pause Newsbin 1/2 way through and then go to this folder. You should see and .NB2 sitting there with the subject of the file as the name.

the downloads go to a regular internal harddrive. nothing special. I even tried a different drive, folders etc.

Just for grins. Pause newsbin, select Ctrl-Y on the one file, then while it's sitting there in the download list, right click "Assign a New Path" to some other path, "C:\temp\" or something and then unpause and see if the download completes. that didn't work at all. I add the file (CTRL+Y), it goes in the queue and shows progression, changed paths, but nothing ends up in the specified folder. and no .nb2 file is created.

I tried it with a different file though: same steps as before and the file downloads ok in the folder. but there's still no nb2 created, or visible, in the destination folder during the download.
I don't even see nb2s for the files that are downloading right now. the only nb2 files that I find on that drive at all, are old and not relevant and not even hidden or anything.

Rv2 files will only show up even with everything working when the file downloading is past a certain size. There's a buffer. If you're downloading reasonably sized files, though, they should be showing up, yeah, but don't get distracted by the rv2 file issue, it's just a clue.

Basically what you're describing always has specific clues that you aren't reporting, so that's why you might get questions that you think you've already answered. We're just trying to get to the bottom of it. Just to clarify, right now, you have your file? It sounds to me like a one-off. There was probably a clue in there somewhere, who knows what. If it happens again, feel free to report it, there might be some underlying issue that's difficult to trigger.

NO, I don't get the file I want (the last one in different sets of RAR's, as described before in the thread mentioned above). That's what I meant with the first part of my last post.
After that I went and tried (ctrl+y) a different file from the same set, which has downloaded fine before) just to see if the method Quade described worked. The file downloaded OK (it was around 60mb), as before, but no temporary nb2 was created, or visible in the destination folder or anywhere else.

Right now I'm downloading different files of different sizes (all around 300 - 600mb) and still, there are no nb2 files anywhere.

Do you have "MemCachLimit" set to anything in the configuration file? If so, you could try exiting Newsbin, removing that entry so, it uses the default, then starting Newsbin and trying again. The lack of an NB2 suggests memcache limit is caching the whole file.

I'm sorry, i just realized, i looked at the wrong file - it was an older backup... the Memcachelimit is set to 120. how does that number affect the download or caching?

The MemCahceLimit is described here in the User Guide.

Having such a large value would explain not seeing files appearing on disk as they are downloaded since they would be cached in memory. You must have set it at some time and fogotten you had done so. I think you should try setting it to 0 to force immediate write to disk (I have a feeling this might now be the default anyway).

Well, you probably found a bug. Now that I know you have the memcachelimit set, I can try this again. There's nothing wrong with memcachelimit of 120. That's a reasonable number. It sounds more like something is broken in Newsbin when you set that number though.

This means we're getting somewhere though so, it's good news.
