Can't download without bypassing filters

Postby bruce73 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:38 am

This seems to have just started happening. Every file I try fails (HFC:Rejected Local Profile Filter: Filename Filter ...). If I "Add to Download List - Bypass Filters," I have no problems.

I've tried disabling my own filters. Also de-selected "Use Duplicate Detector" in Options. I deleted the Signatures.db3 and let NB created a new one, but that didn't work. I can't locate the source of the problem.

Win 7/64
NB 6.20 Build 1513

It says you have a filter assigned that rejects the file in the local filter profile. Do you have a filter assigned to the group you're downloading from?

Yes, I do. It's a multimedia filter I've used for years. I can't even remember the last time I modified it. The posts that are failing aren't hidden by the filter. That's what I don't understand.

The error message is saying that it is a filename filter. Those only apply at download time - not when displaying a post list.

I understand that. What I meant was that the posts that are failing have the green icon in the post list, not the red one wit a minus. I'm having better luck today by adding specific strings to the "Accept" lists, rather than rely solely on "Reject" lists. I assume that Accept takes precedence over Reject, correct?

In the end, I'm sure this is some bone-headed thing I'm overlooking. :oops: Thanks.

No this isn't the case. It's basically two cascaded filters.

Accept->Reject->download

So the logic is "If it passed the accept filter and isn't rejected, it'll be saved". So, you can pass the accept and still be rejected.

As Itimpi mentions, filename filters only apply after download. You might want to delete everything from the filename filters and only use the subject filters
