How much memory is too much for 6.xx?

How much memory is too much for 6.xx?

Postby RayMark » Fri Dec 02, 2011 2:03 pm

Because of the continuing memory-related issues with the 32 bit version, I decided to switch to Windows 7 x64.

So the question is how much memory I should put into my new system. Is the usual 16 GB enough or there are advantages in using 24 GB or 32 GB?
Is there a limit newsbin can use?
If not, is there a practical limit newsbin never exceeds with current group volumes?

Perhaps with 32 GB I can load more days of headers (all the headers), more groups simultaneously, or put more files to the download list, etc.?

But perhaps whatever I load I still will not get anywhere close to 16 GB?
In that case there is no need to have more memory than 16 GB and perhaps risk reduced stability.

Is there any real advantage using registered and/or ecc memory?
My intention is to use 16 GB of non-registered non-ecc memory.
Unless advised differently.

The problems's not really not enough RAM. It's not enough address space.

There's no upper limit to how much RAM Newsbin can use though. Mine's using typically well under 1G unless I really make an effort to use some RAM.

Is true.

I don't think it matters. Honestly I think 6-whatever gigs is more than enough. I'd get at least 6. The more the merrier.

Thanks.

I was thinking about 16 GB, and any other thoughts only to get more than 16 or not.
Because the chipset/motherboard support 32 GB and such memory kits exist.
Probably 16 GB is enough then.

I would like to know, though, what the highest Newsbin 6 memory usage was observed by anybody.
Perhaps somebody tried to load the whole boneless or something.
But probably nobody even has all the headers for it.

I'm pretty sure I can load boneless in 2 gigs or less.

That makes it clear that 16 gigs is more than enough for Newsbin.
Thanks again.
