Version 6.20 Release Candidate 2 Available...

Postby dexter » Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:45 am

Release Candidate 2 fixes an issue with ID3 tags introduced in the last version. Couple other small issues fixed as well.

Summary:

  • Fixed the bug in ID3 mode introduced in last build
  • Changed AutoPAR to rename duplicate files during unrar and leave them in the destination folder.
  • Now checks all files in RAR archive for encryption regardless of extension. Spammers are embedding RARS named something else now.
  • Made local search and post lists work with accented characters
  • Now supports new file counts from the search server (will start showing counts when new search server code is promoted to production)

More information and the download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

If you already downloaded RC2 build 1500, you might want to download it again so you can get RC2 build 1509. We found an issue in some new Internet Search code that was causing crashes. It's a feature that isn't on the search server yet anyways so we pulled it. New one is at the same link on the Beta Download Page.

Possible bug in 6.20 RC1, noticed while installing RC2 (Just incase this is something that has now crept in)

In the past when updates have been installed. Newsbin has been running, so close Newsbin, download new version, install. Worked every time

This time close, install, and at many files it asked if Newsbin was running, well no I closed it, checked I didnt minimise it. But On checking Task Manager, Newsbin was still sitting there. On closing in Task Manager, new version installed

When you ask Newsbin to close it can be some time after the GUI disappears before it actually finishes the process and disappears from the task list. How long this takes seems to depend on how busy it was at the time - I have often seen it take minutes. My suspicion is therefore in this case you simply did not wait long enough.

This has always been Newsbin's behaviour. I have suggested in the past that perhaps having a 'closing' dialog visible during this time might be a good idea, but Quade has never been convinced enough to implement such a feature.

I think what made it noticeable, was that it was different to what has happened in the past. In most cases I am downloading while I download the update, then close and run the update.

A closing dialog might be a good idea, as you will know for certain that Newsbin has completed what it was doing.

Closing from task manager is probably not the safest way to do things, but after 5 minutes you start to wonder it it has hung. Monitoring the shutdown time on my machine indicates a few seconds is normal.
