Telnet speed throttling

Telnet speed throttling

Postby spike6479 » Thu Oct 27, 2011 6:21 pm

Hi there,

It looks to me like the Telnet port is throttled when download speed is throttle. Is there a way to stop this?

Thanks,
Spike

That's about as clear as mud. You need to explain it better. Nothing in Newsbin can throttle other applications. If you find you have a hard time using multiple apps on the net at the same time, you might cut the connections down in Newsbin.

Sorry for not being very clear, my granddaughter dropped in (4 years old), just as I was sending that question.

What I noticed is that my application requesting Newsbinpro to download posts went much slower (maybe 4 Hz) if I have newsbinpro throttled. So I was wondering if throttling newsbinpro also throttled its response to telnet (I''m using 127.0.0.1). In other words does throttling newsbinpro download throttle all TCP traffic; if so is the throttling at a layer where telnet can be excluded from the throttling? It's not a big problem for me.

Thanks,
Spike

I'm reasonably sure that throttling Newsbin is only related to Newsbin. In fact, many times you want to throttle Newsbin is precisely because you want to free up some of the bandwidth for other apps.

Well, it throttles all net traffic to and from Newsbin. It's still not clear if you mean the TCP interface INTO Newsbin or some other application running on your PC.

I wrote an application that controls newsbinpro by comminucating with it via telnet, using the "Newsbin TCP Interface". When this application requests newsbin to download a post using the LOADED DOWNLOAD command it takes much longer to get a response from newsbin when newsbin is throttling the download of post. I'm asking if there is a way to get newsbin to throttle just the nttp protocol.

There we go, just took 5 posts. Currently throttling is Newsbin wide. I'll have to think about it. Basically I'd need some state that tells a particular connection to ignore the throttle.

I'll add the idea to my todo list.

Edit: With some more thought, I do like the idea. It's applying to search now too which I probably don't want.

I changed things around so, throttling won't impact the TCP interface or search.

It'll be in 6.2B2

That's great. Some times it simply takes awhile to state a point so that it may be understood.

Thanks,

Hi there,

I tried 6.20B3 Build: 1447. Something seems to have changed in the list handling. The following sequence of commands used to return just new headers, now it returns all headers. Is there some way to get just new headers?

Filter Clear
Filter HideOld 1
Filter AddGroup
groupname
Group Load 50 0

Thanks,
Spike
