connection stops after change to fiber optic

Postby DEEPCONTACT » Fri Oct 28, 2011 11:57 am

Hello Again:

Finally i installed fiber optic connection. Well I didn't do anything, the guy from the company did.
After the installation everything works perfectly, and my newsbin too, but I can see that the connection stops and Newsbin just stays there with 0kb speed. Then the connection starts again for a little while and then stops again in intervals.

I think you guys call it "throttling"?

Is it because i have too many connections to my server? It is Giganews and i have 50

Thank you

Check the logging tab first, see if there's anything meaningful. Be sure you're using an SSL connection, there's much less likelyhood your ISP is involved in throttling if you are. It's also possible your high speeds are busting your network infrastructure i.e. if you're running wireless in the house to your newsbin-installed computer, I can almost guarantee that's breaking. Newsbin will push your network as hard as it will go, many routers can't handle that, certainly wireless. For a diagnostic, try bypassing the router completely, direct connect to the modem, see if that makes a difference.

The logging tab is ok i have received no errors

DThor wrote: Be sure you're using an SSL connection

I am using SSL on the servers options. I am not using wireless, I have the LAN cable but it is plugged in the router not in the modem or ONT because my ISP doesn´t permit to connect directly to the modem, just through a router.

You changed your net connection and it stopped working. That suggests it's the net connection doesn't it? What server are you using?

If you are getting no error messages appearing in the Newsbin logging tab, then that suggests the cause is likely to be something outside Newsbin. Have you checked whether ordinary Internet access from a browser is working at times when Newsbin speed is dropping to zero?

I am using giganews, and yes it sounds logical, but the problem appeared the third day, i downloaded a few big post and no problems, then after third day, this occured.

Well, apart from something you missed, it seems like you're hammering the problem back out the door, i.e. it's either your ISP or a sporadic problem at giganews. Just before abandoning the router, though, you say your ISP doesn't allow you to directly connect to the modem - did they provide you with an approved router to work with that speed? If not, I'm just wondering if your router simply can't handle the stress?

Hello,
Sorry if this post arrives late and is not very usefull, but I just want to witness that, as a optic fiber user, I found Newsbin even faster that others clients... ie whith grabit or unzbin, I was at 14mbits/s, now with newsbin I dl at 19mbits/s. I can't explain that... is that because it's a 64bits based program?

It's just more optimized. How fast is your connection? You ought to be able to get full connection speed. I easily get 100 on my 100 Mbps cable modem.

when I test it at my provider homepage, it says: 143,5 Mbit/s (17,94 Mo/s)
I don't really understand the difference betwin those two...
My server is supernews with 30 connections.

If you're getting 19 MBps from Newsbin, that's about all this connection will give you.

bps = bits/sec
Bps = bytes/sec

Bps = bps/8

So basically it's two ways of reporting the same speed.

Newsbin reports both speeds down on the status bar. That's a pretty nice speed.

What kind of PC is this. Are you using 64 bit windows?

Yes, I use windows 7 64bits... Now I understand those two numbers... I only watched the second one because it talks to me: 19mbits/s means that I get 1,1 giga per minute... So you say it's the max I can get?

IF your connection says 17.9MBps and newsbin is giving you 19.1 MBps then that's as fast as you can download. The limit is your network connection speed.

I'm not sure you're clear on little b and big B. It makes a large difference.

19mbits/s

You keep saying this but, this is a slow speed. So, I don't really know what speed you're getting. I think you mean bytes per second (Bps) but, that's not what you're writing.

Ok I just downloaded with newsbin and here is what it says: 155.3Mbps/19.4MBps.
I understand now what you meant:
