Download list stays empty

Postby apsen » Mon Oct 10, 2011 3:42 pm

What could be the reason that download list stays empty?

The files are actually being downloaded but I could not see the progress as nothing appears in that tab.
I could not see header download progress because of this too.

It started sometimes yesterday. I've tried to restart NB but that didn't help.

Not a friggin clue. Are you sure the download list isn't actually closed?

You're the only one reporting this at this point so, I'm just going to wait for it to happen to other people before I do anything. Like I said "no clue". You restart and there's still nothing there?

Yep - restart didn't help. What file that list is stored? Where are its setting stored?

Downloads.db3 is the file on disk. It's not used when Newsbin is running though. It's just loaded when Newsbin starts and gets added to and deleted from as files are added and deleted. You can add files to download, even if Newsbin can't write to it. Can't hurt to delete it I guess though.

I have deleted:

Code: Select all
Downloaded.db3
DownloadMarker.db3
Downloads.db3

and now it seems fine.

DownloadMarker is where the history of all your downloads goes. Deleting it means all the files that would be marked "Downloaded" won't be marked any more. It's stored as a hash of the subject so, you can't look at download marker and know what you downloaded but, Newsbin knows by comparing hashes. This is a security feature since most people don't like to leave a trail behind.

Had it happen today again - tried to get latest headers for the group and it was not reflected in download list.
This time I did not wait for download to finish and restarted NB right away. The headers download did not resume
(by design?) but when I triggered it again it was showing in the download list.

There's something very screwy with your setup. I wonder if that's the basis of many of your problems.

I don't think this has anything to do with the NBI. Even a corrupt downloads.db3 has never caused this before. When I say I don't know, I mean it. You didn't mess with text colors did you? Can you select these invisible items in the download list?

6.11 build 1342 - just for information.

This happened to me today when I downloaded 4 files.

3 of the files I highlighted and used the '' Download -bypass filters'' option in the right click drop down menu - they had been marked with the red filtered icon.

The 4th file I just clicked on the blue icon.

None of the files went into the download list, even though they were downloaded, and then par/rar sucessfully and appeared in the download folder.

This is the one and only time it has happened.

No there's nothing to select and the counter is 0.

I had the same thing happen to me the first two or three times I used version 6.
No idea what was causing it, or why it's sorted itself out now, but I found that reordering the 'empty' list (by size, date - anything) caused all the queued files to suddenly appear!

That's interesting. Newsbin uses "double-buffering" on the list controls. It suggests that the data is there but, for some reason not displayed.
