Upcoming features and fixes in 6.2.

Postby Quade » Fri Oct 21, 2011 1:03 am

Selection Sort in the download list:
- Working better than ever in fact. You select a block of files in the download list, hit the sort column and only the selected block will sort.

Better Spam filters:
- Don't want to reveal too much but, I've expanded on the encrypted rar filters. You can filter out DRM'd WMV files even if they're in a RAR file. You'll be able to filter MKV files by audio and sub language (though I haven't figured out what the GUI will look like yet). You can filter out encrypted rars or allow encrypted rars and filter out only when an encrypted rar is inside another rar. This is going to keep expanding as I add new file formats to examine.

Failed file Feedback:
- Another fix, the expanded failure for SPAM means I need to improve reporting in the post and failed list. The posts list now persistently turn red on error and list the same error as the failed list.

Built in Scheduler:
- Yeah, at long last.

Proxy support:
-Socks4, Socks5 and HTTPS with password. Currently this is "per server" meaning if you have 4 servers you can use 4 different proxies with the server. The HTTPS proxy is probably the neatest. Good chance you can get out of a corporate firewall with that. Supports "Proxy Authenticate" too so, you can add you access password.

Miscellaneous:
- Reset the display from within Newsbin without losing your custom shortcuts
- Load a backup NBI file from it's encrypted backup.
- Disabling autopar makes it follow standard renaming mode for PAR files.

Some "want to get in there's" are:
- Allow custom sort on the groups list.
- Delete individual items within a set in the download list.
- PC shutdown when download and unrar completes (haven't researched this one yet).

Crapload of bug fixes and suggestions implemented. I already think 6.2 is better than 6.11. I don't think the first 6.2 beta is too far off. Probably within the next couple days.

That would be related to the 'need to figure out the gui' comment. Some sort of decision process needs to be sussed out. For example, I wouldn't want something that has only German audio and Dutch subtitles, since I speak neither, but I'm totally happy with, say, the original Norweigian and English subs. I personally think it could get stupidly complicated quite easily, so perhaps it's something as simple as "allow anything that has 'eng' in <audio>, ". Another problem is, afaik, there isn't a fixed standard on language naming, so I'm guessing you need wildcards. Like much of usenet, it's not a governed body and there's only so far one's expectations of predictably can go.

I noticed the other day some posts that had 5 audio languages and 10 subtitles!

Yeah, I'm not clear how it'll work in practice. It might simply not work and instead of filtering, I might just have a "check file" mode that downloads the first chunk and tells you what languages are represented.

That would be great especially if it can check for (in my case) dutch subs, if possible that would be really awesome :D

Currently I only support MKV and WMV files but, other formats are just some coding away.

Dex has been doing some spam filtering with search. He's happy because newsbin is reporting

HFC:RAR Contains Viral Payload

On some of the spam RAR files. Some of it pretty sizeable too.

I was just getting used to clicking Reduced Speed/Full Speed on status bar after getting rid of Giganews Accelerator. Is there no way to toggle Network Speed Limiter without going into the dialog box? Do I have to click every rectangular section in Scheduler to make all the boxes yellow? I'm confused how it's supposed to go now. :?

edit: Ok, sorry. I see there's a bunch of check boxes in the status bar. Whew!! For a second I was worried. :)

Not getting it. If you click the right most box on the status bar, you can toggle the speed limiter.

Edit: What screen res are you using? If you shrink it down enough, you do lose some of the status bar. Maybe I should move the clickable things to the left and the status to the right.

I use 1280 x 1024. I'm sticking with my old CRT until it dies :)

Is it feasible to have the info text go on the status bar in the order clicked? Or are the regions pretty much hard wired? For myself I don't foresee using scheduler but I do constantly toggle speed limiter now that I no longer run Giganews Accelerator window.

Instead of Running, Speed Limited, etc.. maybe combine into a traffic light Yellow, Green, Red? Would save space if status bar object allows graphics.

I'm not averse to making it 3 way. Have to figure out how first.

I should add I don't run maximized. I'd guess I'm using about 1100 pixels width. There's nothing wrong with the way it is afaic. I was just shocked when I thought the Full Speed Button disappeared. Now that I'm used to it I like the customization options. I always run a lean system disk and put data on externals so I like that I can turn off the disk free space display. The program is fun to use. :)

The 3 way display may look cool. Maybe have a different bold letter in a different color so that those who don't distinguish colors well can still see what's what. Like maybe a big green F or FS for full speed etc..
