Downloads stop with one block to go

Postby mimauk » Sat Sep 03, 2011 5:44 pm

With the last couple of 6.1 beta releases I'm getting the downloads stopping with one or two blocks to go - this seems to happen when my ISP is restricting the download speeds in the evening due to demand. I have a 50MB connection which gets restricted to about 20MB average at peak times - it is not a smooth 20MB but up and down very erratically.

I had 10 files in the download list and as they got to the end they would just stop. When I expanded each file, made up of 20+ rar files, one of the rars would show ''downloading'' in the status - it looked like it only had one block to go - while all the others showed ''downloaded. To get them to finish I had to ''Assemble Incompletes'' on each header and then let par repair it.

Just tried a couple more downloads and left the files on the download list and after a couple of minutes they repaired themselves.
One couldn't as there was not enough pars. The list of ten files I mentioned in the previous post was yesterday and using RC1 - I am now using RC2 and maybe this has now been addressed.

I think the problem is still in RC2 and I'm aware of it. In the NBI file, if you exit Newsbin and add the setting:

[SETTINGS]
AutoAssembleTimer=10000

It'll probably stop. What's happening is that the auto-assemble timer is firing too soon.

A bit more info with the downloads stopping.

Just tried downloading 3 files - 2 from one poster, a 270MB file of 5x52MB rar files +pars and a 350MB file of 7x52MB rars +pars. These both froze near the end of the download.

The third file from a different poster - 1.6GB of 59x 25MB rars +pars. This one completed with no hesitations.

The list of ten files that froze, I mentioned in yesterdays post, where also from the same poster as the files that froze tonight.

Could it be a problem with the rar files sizes?? or maybe just the way the files are posted??

Also tonight when updating all the groups - 51 of them, some as GOGs and some singles - the 9 groups/GOGs with a lot of posts in them froze. I had to delete them from the download list and then do an individual '' download latest'' for each one

I've just checked the actual files in the download folder and discovered that they are rars within rars - ie the 270MB 5x52 MB rar becomes 13x14MB rars when it becomes unrared.

A poster to ignore in the future.

The "encrypted file filter" will fail "RAR within RAR" sets too.

Just tried a couple of the larger files from the other poster and they froze as well near the end and I had to do an ''assemble incompletes'' so the problem is still there.

You know, this has nothing to do with the original topic which was assembling too soon. I'm having no issues with stalling on the last blocks so, I'm not even looking at that. Sounds like the files are incomplete. If you made the setting change I suggested earlier setting "Autoassemble Timer" to 10,000, you basically disabled Newsbin's automatic partial file assembler so, this sounds like it's expected behaviour if you ask me.
