Version 6.01 Beta 5 Available...

Postby dexter » Wed Aug 10, 2011 2:48 pm

Beta 4 had a serious display issue on XP machines for the date. This has been fixed in B5.

Here is the list of changes:

  • Fixed issue displaying timestamps for XP systems.
  • Fixed issue where the new Taskbar buttons go away and don't come back when Newsbin is minimized and restored.
  • Changed how sort works so, par-only sets sort in the correct size order.
  • When posting two part posts, the CRC was getting generated incorrectly
  • Fixed issue with TCP interface where it wouldn't accept connections without enabling authentication first.

A complete list of changes and the download link are on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Any issues with this release, please reply to this thread, contact us through our Technical Support Form or swing by our irc channel. It's #newsbin on irc.newsbin.com.

Fixed issue where the new Taskbar buttons go away and don't come back when Newsbin is minimized and restored.

Thanks for the fix.

I see there is now a play or pause icon over the newsbin logo on the taskbar. Small point, it doesn't update after pressing pause it still has the play button on the taskbar. It does however update on minimize and restore.

And if I might make a suggestion. Wouldn't it be more intuitive if the pause logo would change in a play button once newsbin is on pause? And of course than change back to a pause button.

Reboot doesn't help.
I checked "performance options" @ system properties and all the features are checked except for 'save taskbar thumbnail previews'.

I'm on windows 7 x64, is there more information that might provide a clue?

Unfortunately, the low disk warning seems to back to a grab in b5 (at least I think it didn't lock everything up in some the recent-ish builds.)

Was/would be(?) much nicer to be able to use newsbin to clear up disk, etc...

In b5, the window "Warning: Newsbin Paused - Low Disk..." is using a grab (in X11 speak, maybe it's called something else in Windows? Modal??) so it is not possible to interact with any other part of the application until the window is closed (and it will pop back up a second later...) Unless I'm confused, in some recent builds, it popped up but it was still possible to click on other things, e.g., remove stuff from lists, change download directories, decode files to other drives... You could move the window around, and downloading was paused until you clicked OK, but it didn't hinder other operations (no grab/non-modal).

Hope this was clearer and not just muddling the issue further:-)

Why NBpro6 doesnt utilize my 2 cores when it repairs stuff(unlike other newsreaders like sabnzbd(well, nzb downloader but still..), usenet explorer)?

Right now im having it reparing a file and i have like 90%+ idle cpu and repairing is SLOW

In some cases it's a good thing for instance when i watch some 1080 BDrip but i would like to be able to turn nb6 par2 to do repairing at maximum when i dont have to spare resources.

And it has been with all betas. I checked repair priority setting in INI file and i dont have it set to "low"

ps core 2 duo 3Ghz, 4Gb(available 3,6+) ram, win xp sp3

Because it leaves one core for you to do other things. I could make that optional but, then you'd probably complain about not being able to watch any videos.

What's with the idea that im gonna complain about it?
tbh that statement doesnt make you look good as a developer of a paid software Or perhaps youve got a crystal ball and can look into the future? :D

I wouldnt call it complaining rather pointing out a serious flaw.

Both sabnzbd and usenet explorer give you the option to turn off\on multicore repair.

Why cant we have it here? In , i quote , "The Ultimate Usenet Downloading Tool" ?
Unless it is just bragging...

INI option as a part of advanced usage would suffice just fine

and ,yeah, maybe my remarks in this post are a bit biting but its because of your competely unprofessional comment above.

There's something strange going while extracting RARs'.

I've downloaded a set of Rars with the following internal directory structure:

filenames: NAME_OF_MOVIE.part01.rar ... part40.rar
dir structure in rar:

dir NAME_OF_MOVIE
--------- subdir VIDEO_TS
------------------ [ VIDEO_TS.BUP
------------------ [ VIDEO_TS.IFO
------------------ [ etc etc

But when the rars are extracted, Newsbin creates this directory structure:

dir NAME_OF_MOVIE.part01.rar
--------- subdir NAME_OF_MOVIE
------------------ [ < empty dir>

dir NAME_OF_MOVIE_VIDEO_TS
--------- [ VIDEO_TS.BUP
--------- [ VIDEO_TS.BUP
--------- [ etc etc

I'm on Newsbin 6.01b5 (64 bit)

Anything in Options/AutoPAR Options under Override Unrar path? It looks like you've got an 'Add a Path Prefix' enabled.

Newsbin unrars to a temp folder named for one of the RAR files. That's what I see here. It'll try to move the files to the expected folder but, if the files are already in the final folder, it'll give up the move and leave the files where it unrared them. I suspect it just needs to be tweeked some more.

No, that's not it. The way I've setup Newsbin is that files are downloaded in a directory based on the name of the NZB (E:\Download\Newsbin\<NAME_OF_NZB) and are extracted to another drive (H:\Download\Newsbin\<NAME_OF_NZB). That's what the "Unrar to a folder named for the source folder" option is for.

That still works fine. The issue is that the extracted files in H:\Download\Newsbin\<NAME_OF_NZB don't correspond with the contents of the downloaded RAR. This wasn't the case in the previous 6.0 betas I've tried. Quade has identified one issue (temporary directories that ended up in the extraction directory).

But there's also the issue that the dir structure in the rar (\MOVIE_NAME\VIDEO_TS) was changed to a single directory called MOVIE_NAME_VIDEO_TS.

I know Quade has reproduced this and is working on the fix. Hopefully it will be in the next build.

I actually talked to RAR Labs about this. They claim they don't have multi-core unrar even in their latest version. I looked at the 7zip library and it doesn't seem to have multi-core unrar either. Honestly these days I think repair is faster than unrar in some cases. The RAR library works great but, it's chock full of legacy stuff making it hard to work on. Looks like RAR has gone through many versions and they're all still supported.

Path thing's looking well. It'll leave the files in the temp folder if they already exist in the unrar folder so, if you download lots of things with the same filenames inside the rars, they won't get over-written ever. It's better than renaming too because renaming doesn't help you keep these files grouped together.

If Newsbin is allready downloading and i add some new files, the Assign a New Unrar Path only works if i place the new added files at the top.

That is the one case where I would expect it to fail every time (unless you had downloads paused at the time) so I am not sure how you are getting it to work as you cannot assign a new path to an item if Newsbin has already started downloading it.

From a UI perspective, I think the option to assign a new path should be disabled in the cases it will not be allowed.

I agree, maybe an idea to show in newsbin to which folder the files will be unrar. The assign a new path only works if i see the under properties (selected files > right mouseclick)
