Version 6.01 Beta 3 Available...

Postby dexter » Fri Aug 05, 2011 7:29 pm

Beta 2 was released quietly to test some specific bug fixes. This is the official Version 6.01 Beta 3 release which contains a ton of internal changes to improve reliability and address some esoteric issues that have been uncovered. A short summary is below but the entire change list is available in the release notes and on the Beta Download Page.

Summary:

  • Changed compact mode expansion icons to plus and minus signs instead of arrows.
  • Made internal changes to address issues people were reporting with the speed limiter not working properly
  • Made internal changes to address esoteric issues with AutoPAR (not everyone would see these problems).
  • Substantial work to the TCP interface.
  • Added ability to assign a filter profile to NZB processing.
  • Now prompts to restore missing Newsbin .nbi configuration from a backup database if the configuration file is missing for some reason

There are many many more changes listed, along with the download link, on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Any issues with this release, please reply to this thread, contact us through our Technical Support Form or swing by our irc channel. It's #newsbin on irc.newsbin.com.

My speed limiter doesn't seem to be holding to the amount it is set to. Can anyone else test this?

Indeed, the download speed is different (lower) than i have set in the limiter.

Further, i really like this release. Thank you for the update.

Hi

I can confirm the Speed Limiter Problem - I have a 100Mbit Cable TV Internet Pipeline and if I set it to 50% I only get arround 30% of what full speed gives me

You can change it though to match what you really want to filter on can't you?

What I'm saying is that the scale marks might be wrong but, it can be set to reduce the speed to where you want it?

I reduced the socket buffer sizes so, it's likely it's more accurate now and I just need to re-scale the actual numbers listed.

"Created mode to instantly assemble files that have more than one par listed instead of based on age."

Can this mode be turned off?? I download things as they are being posted. Beta 3 now assembles too quickly. Now I'm getting a lot of repair failed in the status.

So, you have all the file information from an NZB and the files aren't on the server yet? It shouldn't be assembling them at that point. I'd say you don't want it disabled but, it's something that needs fixing instead.

I'd switch back to B1 for now.

Not using NZB, I'm using headers.

The new assembly code won't kick in unless there's more than one PAR file. Typically you get one small par file, the files and then the rest of the PAR files. Are these files not like that?

There were a couple of complete PAR files and a number of incomplete PAR files. There were also half a dozen incomplete RARs. Beta 3 assembled all the incompletes and didn't have enough to repair. I did find the incomplete PAR files were now complete - so I deleted the incomplete par files and downloaded the completes and then it had enough to repair.

So, the problem is the incomplete pars then. I'll have to think about that one.

I believe I have a solution. I need to test it first and then get a B4 ready. I need to fix XTM files one last time too.
