I unpack files to my network drive and doing the wrong thing on that drive at the wrong time can corrupt files so I check the autopar status of files

6 doesn't have an autopar tab. You can check state in the download list through right click properties. It shows autopar state as long as you've downloaded at least one par.

I don't really think people want to have to jerk with repair or unrar. Add the sets to the download list, let it repair and unrar and you have files when it's done. If it's not repairing or unraring enough, fixing that is the solution not adding a different tab..

The only trouble for my is that this then sits in the download list, and so I have issues understanding whether it has finished downloading or not! I can of course remove it but I might not know whether a PAR file doesn't exist or just that it is still waiting for stuff - I need to go into the file to check (I think!)

Some of the above is probably more a limitation of PAR files. A lot downloads may come with a NFO or a URL pointing to somewhere that isnt really required, but because its not been downloaded I guess the par file isnt seen as complete? I wish something semi intelligent could happen in Newsbin where there is an attempt to unrar if the missing files are URL, NFO, HTML, SFV etc - list configurable of course!)

You're not talking rubbish at all. The Newsbin guys are very aware of things that could be improved, certainly the goal is to have Newsbin as hands-off as possible so you can simply tag something then see it later in your download folder, without having to intervene. Apart from some scenarios where something is simply posted bizarrely, which will always be an issue, there's the question of what to do when an upload might still be in progress. Lots of users want to wait, they hate unnecessary downloads. Others just want it now, even if it requires a repair. That usually involves some sort of interaction. There are a couple of settings that streamline that, such as how new something has to be before it's considered worth waiting on.

We're also testing one now with the ability to extract more types of posts automatically. Also, more information in the download queue to inform the user what's going on.

Note hat if AutoPar is active, then entries do NOT stick in the Download list after they have been downloaded, checked, repaired (if necessary) and unpacked. Therefore entries that DO stick around need looking at more closely. This would apply whether one had a separate Autopar list or not.

The Size and Status column information also give information about the download state although some of it is a bit cryptic in nature until you understand the abreviations used. General feedback to the user on what is happening is one area that improvements are being introduced in the 6.01 beta program that is currently under way. However I think there is still more that could be done in this area.

Yeah, not rubbish.

- Newsbin 6.01B3 will attempt to unrar any rar set even without pars.

- It displays more download progress information too.

- The right click properties menu will let you see more details about the par set than even the autopar window showed.

I'm moving forward with improvements as people suggest them.

6.01B3 has the remote control interface in it too. Basically, the ability to remote control it with an ipad or phone running the right app.

Yes I probably agree but all this clouds the download tab - the separate autopar got these out of immediate sight. So my example above is replicated a lot in some groups - the RAR files are downloaded but the NFO / SRV files are not available even though they are in the PAR set. But they unrar fine. This is why I have nearly 8,000 entries in my download list, and why Newsbin 6.01B3 sounds like a godsend! I think having that many entries waiting around was "annoying" newsbin somewhat as well, it would stop working (sit dormant) unless I moved all my new download to the top of the list.

I've been a registered NewsBin owner since V3. And I would really like the autopar tab back. I realize there are other ways. I just liked the simplicity of the tab.

I won't say no but, I'm going to see how close I can get the download list to not needing it first.
