How to stop par2 files from downloading?

Postby dunnyrummys » Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:42 pm

OK, I like NB6.0 with the exception that when a file is selected from binary groups, I get stuck downloading par2 files as well as the rar files!! In NB5 the par2 files would go into a separate folder and I would have the CHOICE to add to the download list or not. This is just wasted bandwidth and costs me unnecessary gigabytes (which I pay for) to download. Why was NB6 designed like this? Is there a way for NB6 to do the same as NB5 in respect of containing par2 files in a separate folder?

Turn on autopar and it'll only download the pars it needs to do repairs or none. That's how it was designed to work. I'm probably going to change how it downloads pars with autopar turned off but, it's not there now so, this is probably your only choice. You could also simply not add them to the download list.

I don't like NB6.0 design (IE, par2s downloading with rar files). It is unnecessary and costly gigabytes with news servers. I have to manually pause the par2 files to save $$$$ with astraweb & Easynews. IMHO the programmers did wrong to do this awful thing. I hope a NEW code will be available soon or I'm going back to NB5!!! Yes if there is no option to save the par2 files SEPARATELY from the RAR files the my interest in NB6 will be degraded and I'll probably wont use NB6. I have voiced my opinion about your new NB6!

You seemed to miss the "turn on autopar and it won't download the pars" part of my post. With autopar turned off it downloads whatever you add to the download list. With Autopar turned on, it's selective. It won't download any pars if it doesn't need them for repair. You've basically turned this logic off by disabling autopar.

Honestly, reading your new comment suggests you didn't even read my post.

Turn on autopar and it'll only download the pars it needs to do repairs or none. That's how it was designed to work. I'm probably going to change how it downloads pars with autopar turned off but, it's not there now so, this is probably your only choice. You could also simply not add them to the download list.

Here is is again.

Yeah, autopar is your bandwidth friend and time saver. I've not tried to analyze or diagnose the behavior but it seems to do just what is advertised.

I took the manual approach for the longest time, but now I just leave it ON and I always get what I chose to download, never having to hunt for then compute how many pars I need to complete a download.
