Compacting DB

Postby bertm » Sat Jun 18, 2011 1:44 pm

I am in the process of compacting my DB (it has been running for at least 2.5 hrs. already) and I noticed some peculiar results:

group size (assume Original) size (assume after compacting)
a.b.dvd 6.77 gb 18.23 gb
a.b.hdtv 8.7 gb 11.78 gb
a.b.hdtv.x264 11.16 gb 19.89 gb
a.b.multimedia 4.6 gb 13.67 gb
a.b.comp 1.6 gb 12.38 gb

Other groups have the reverse (expected) size change - but not nearly as dramatic.

Does this make sense?

Sounds like it failed so, it's counting both the original DB and the temp DB it compacts too. Anything in the logging tab?

I can't get to the logging tab because it is still compacting. It has two large groups left. It's been running for about 5 hrs. now.

I stopped it because it ran out of disk space. I am rerunning it group by group, rather than all at once. It looks like it is recapturing space because a.b.hdtv is now 3.38 Gb from 11.78 GB.

I,m all set. By doing it "piece-meal" I've recovered more than 20 GB of space.
