Full Header Downloads

Postby kirm » Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:08 pm

Been a user of Newsbin for many years and it took me some time to adjust to v6 and compact view. I am now enjoying it but have come up with some problems with downloading headers. After switching over to v6 form 5.59, I have noticed that newsbin is dl over 2Gig of headers daily when I update. It appears that whenever I update, it starts to dl all headers again.

I reinstalled newsbin several times, and got the same results. The problem is my data folder is kept on my E: drive while the program is on C: drive. I edited the newsbin.nbi file to point to the proper directory but newsbin kept dl all headers. Finally moved all my data to original install data folder, re-edited the nbi file to point to the standard data folder, and all is well. It appears v6 wont allow data folder change.

Another issue that came up with beta 10 is that when you are in the groups folder and click on one of the groups, it opens the group but does not automatically go to open window as in previous versions. It remains in the groups listing window.

I think you guys have done a great job with this version, and although being an old time user, I never thought I would adapt to compact view, but after using it for awhile, it sure does save alot of scrolling. I was never a fan of autopar, but am now using it just so it could clear up my download window. Just changed settings so that it doesnt delete the rar files. (Sometimes keygen and such show as false positves under av).

Happy Easter to all.

- Pick one group, right click it, "Post Storage\Delete Stored Posts".
- Then set the download age to say, 10.
- Now right click it and "Download latest". Note how many headers it downloads.
- When it's done, right click "Download latests" again and see how many headers is downloads.

You might want to do this to a group that isn't that busy.

You can move the data folder anyplace you want in B11. You just have to make sure that the NBI that gets loaded is pointing to that data folder.

Just checking, you didn't try to edit the .nbi while newsbin was still running?

Thanks for the quick responses, got it all working proper again. It appears that I made a mistake in my typing when I edited the nbi file not following the correct path.

Still dont like the behaviour change since b10 that when I click on a group in groups list, the groups list remains active, and doesnt automatically go to the group window that I just opened.

People asked for it. They like opening 5-8-10 groups or topics as a time and letting them loading in the background while they load other groups.

Doesn't mean this can't be optional.

Optional keeps everyone happy!

I usually update all headers first, and then go through group by group, but been going with the flow on this one, and opening several groups and reading them also works. Had to do alot of adapting to use v6, but am seeing the conveniences you guys put in. Good job!

Next up, gotta learn the options for right-clicking on a group tab and playing with dockable, autohide and floating.
