Canceling a local search - doesn't

Postby nethead » Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:46 pm

Hi

When doing a local search, I press the "Cancel Search' button, after what I am looking for appears on the search window(and it appears fast, the new v6 headers are a WIN); but newsbin continues to search, for what appears is a Complete search of the selected local Groups folder. Having a number of groups in said folder can make for a long search time.

If I remember, in v5.9x the 'Cancel Search' button would stop a search.

Thanks

I isolated boneless in version 5 to it's own group due to it taking so long to do local searches.

I've done one local search so far.. it worked ok for me... Are you using beta2? When did you Cancel the local search? Was the status bar still going for the search?

I will play with this later, probably tomorrow. It took 20 hours to convert 140GB of headers to version 6 and it barely even used my i7 980X. :(
I have two 12 drive hardware raid setups.. o I'm wondering what is causing the conversion to go slow.

I will edit my post unless someone has this problem
system:
xeon system with 128GB+ of ram and a lot of storage. I don't update my sig much.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, this is happening when using v6.0 B2.

Correct, when I canceled the local search, the status bar until the search results window was still updating with the blue scanning "brick icon(?)" and I was unable to use the search results windows until the blue scanning "brick icon" finished and the search status bar went away.

Note: this was not a search boneless, just a reg search of some groups (5~6) with a folder. tested using with multi folders, same result.

As for the v5 to v6 headers; for the 100~ groups, using v6.0 B1, I did a new Download of headers this past weekend(unlimited FiOS FTW); for the largest one(unnamed here), as a test i did the 'convert' process and it took 48+ hours on a P4/newbin 64bit 4gb ram/win2k3

Update:

v6 b5, pressing "Cancel" during a local search - still fails.

It works if you wait lone enough. The problem is I'm not sure how to interrupt access to the DB. That's what makes it look like it's not working.

ah; when searching the biggest newsgroup; it didn't cancel after 30mins; so closed newsbin :) figured that is the quickfix for now.
