Can't create temp files

While it isn't officially supported, we have many users who successfully run NewsBin under Linux with a Windows emulator (Wine is the most popular). This forum exists for you Linux guys to share your experience getting NewsBin running on Linux as well as report any strangeness that we may or may not be able to fix. DThor is the resident expert.

Postby ernest_francis » Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:34 am

Runing under Ubuntu 9.10x64, latest updates installed
Latest Wine version
Newsbin Pro:5.5RC1 build 9726

Message in logging is:
[10:16:50] Level: ERROR MODULE=NNTPSpooler, MSG=Warning - Can't create Temp Download files: Z:\home\ej\files\xxxxxx xxx xxxxxx x 1-12\[2928]-[FULL]-[#a.b.teevee@EFNet]-[xxxxxx.xxx.xxxxxx.xxxx.xx.xxx.xxxxxxxxxx.PDTV.XviD-FQM]-[01_17]-_xxxxxx.xxx.xxxxxx.pdtv.xvid-fqm.par2_yEnc.nb! - General failure

In Options-Filename Options

Prepend subject to filename is unticked and
add subject to filenames is set to 14 (default i think)

well i opened up the nzb and deleted the crap in the subject tag except the filename, saved the file and it worked, but i am not going to do that for every file in the nzb nor for every nzb...

any idea how i can turn off putting the subject in the temp files as this is causing me no end of grief - i also went back to version 5.54 and it has the same problem... so , what is causing this, some switch i have set ??? please help and many thanks ?

Well, the NB! name has the subject in it. It limits itself to 255 chars. If you have filename in the path then you likely have NZB options set to add it to the path.

To answer your questions:

I am getting the NZB's from binsearch.info

In Options->NZB Files I have the following ticked:
Add NZB filename to download path
Clean NZB path

In Options->Filename Options->Filename Modifications
Short filename mode ticked and add subject is set to 14 chars (default?)
Folder Mode is ticked
Auto Rename is ticked

Any ideas what is going on?

So far I haven't actually heard a problem. 150 chars isn't too long for a path in Windows or Linux.

just created a new directory off root for downloads, gave myself permissions

went into wine, assigned it a drive letter and pointed newsbin to save d/l files there

it worked, when i was trying to use my home/profile directory it wouldn't have it

only thing i can think of is i did an update recently and that my home directory is encrypted, something must have broke to stop me saving there, god knows what

I think Wine is seeing a removable hard disk drive connected to the USB port, and is assigning it a logical drive z.
