can't register when newsbin is installed via Wine

While it isn't officially supported, we have many users who successfully run NewsBin under Linux with a Windows emulator (Wine is the most popular). This forum exists for you Linux guys to share your experience getting NewsBin running on Linux as well as report any strangeness that we may or may not be able to fix. DThor is the resident expert.

can't register when newsbin is installed via Wine

Postby sonics » Mon Dec 24, 2007 6:17 am

I use Sabayon - gentoo - distribution.
I installed Wine 0.9.51
I installed newsbin 5.35. When started up I try to register my newsbin but it gives this error:

Registration failed with error HTTP/1.1 409 - key not found in key database.

When using newsbin in windows xp registration worked.

What can I do about this?

This doesn't sound like a wine issue. It's more like you entered it wrong from the error message.

I did copy / paste it.

Would there be a same error message when there would not be an internet connection to check registration key?

When I will be back home I will uninstall wine, install it again and try to install / reg newsbin again.

Maybey I am missing something configuring wine. I don't have any experience with wine yet.

I think this is a nbp problem. You probably want to email tech support.

I had a problem registering when running nbp through wine. I was on IRC and Dexter figured it out real time. It it was due to a problem with wine not providing registration information needed by nbp. (Dex knows what the exact problem was.)
