Newsbin 6.91 RC2 - build 5844

I don't recommend using this version. Use RC3 or Newer.

The biggest change is header imports are now 5-10 times faster than before. So downloading headers from really large groups will be less painful.

Crash Fix: Failure to download a non-file will crash.
Crash Fix: Yenc download with Mime encoded filename with '=' equals a crash.
Display: Potential crashes in download marker caused by access from threads that didn't open the DB connection.

Download: MP3 Tagging with old ID3 field can stop download because embedded zero’s in the new path prevent file rename.

NZB Loader: Dup checker is letting dups through. Had to implement a more nuanced dup checker.
NZB Loader: More work done to compact files in NZB's which don't natively group.

RPB: Ctrl-R on posts that didn't contain files showed nothing.

Header Import: Header import processing is now 5-10 times faster than before.
Header Download: Now downloads and saves as blocks of data instead of line at a time. Should use less CPU.

UnRAR: Use internal timestamps for files inside the rar stopped working. It's working now.

I think this one is pretty close to release.

Installed and uninstalled: the program closes before you can do anything!
Even more unstable than the previous versions.

I'm using it as are some of the IRC people. It's working under Linux too.

I might delete some of the DB files like "DownloadsV2.db3" which is the files, download wish lists. You could move them out of the data folder and see if it starts. "Downloaded.db3" isn't used anymore.

Crash on startup points to loading DB3 files problems.

What CPU are you using?

Intel Core i7 6700 (Skylake)

No problems with that CPU. My Linux machine is Skylake too.

The 13th and 14th gen Intel CPU's are burning up from over-voltage so, people get phantom crashes and eventually the CPU stops working. Depending on load, they can go bad in as little as a month.

It's quite a fiasco for Intel. I probably won't be buying an Intel next time I upgrade.

Another idea for you. Manually remove all the DLL's from the install folder before install. I did that on my linux box and the installed installed the DLLs. They all had Sept 07 Date which is when I made the installer.

I monitor the cpu with Core Temp: no problems reported to the cpu.
Programs running in the background have no problems.

Working fine for me under Linux. Thanks for fixing the regedit watch issue.

I had another report of crashing while importing headers so I'm looking at that.

Thanks.

Heya Quade.

I experienced an appcrash, just one, on my first import of headers when I installed RC2 on Tues morning and after using it for the past couple of days I had the feeling that my usual group header refreshes were pretty light on content. Went back to 6.90 just now, ran a group refresh on my subscribed groups and then had a bunch of stuff dated 10th onwards come through so something is broken. I also deleted my a.b.android data and pulled everything again and all content is present and correct so whatever happened, that you reported fixed, was never present on the non-beta versions. I think my beta journey might be forever-over at this point. I'll stay on 6.90 - if I can help myself from scratching the itch to be on the bleeding edge ;)

Cheers.

Well, I'm having a number of problems with RC2.

1. When downloading/updating groups I'm sometimes getting an "ERROR: unable to write NZB" warning. I've never seen this with prior newsbin versions and when I reinstall 6.91b10 I don't get the error. Note, when I initially installed RC2 I deleted the old .dlls in the newsbin directory first, to make sure the correct ones were installed.
2. Some of my newsgroups/headers are not updating with RC2. I had a group with 70 million entries that wouldn't update, so I deleted it and now I can't get it to update (or download special x number of headers) at all. I got about 15 new headers today on one of the tries, but that's it. I had the same problem with another group, it download a few new entries, but newsbin crashed and exited while doing the update and now I can't get any new entries in that group either.
3. When I initially installed RC2 and started downloading files the Current Progress section was showing a solid, but incorrect color for the server(s) I had enabled. I download from many different sites/servers, and it displayed a color I've never used for my sites. I''ve tried resetting colors for different sites, but that doesn't help. Upon further testing I find the correct color displayed (for the site being used) for a split second and then it changes to a dark blue. All sites are now a dark blue, despite what I've set.

Re: #2 - i'm having the problem with 2 different news sites, so I'd speculate it's not a server problem. Also, when I reinstalled B10 I'm now having the same problems with it - being unable to download/update headers for the 2 problem groups.

I'll try sticking with RC2 until I have show stopping problems.

Thanks, Chris.

PM'd you. Thanks for the feedback.

On the groups that didn't update before. You can set a short "download age" in the main options, then right click the group and select "Post Storage/Use Download Age" and it'll re-download "Download Age" worth of headers when you update again.

I'd suggest trying this with the one I PM'd you about.
