NB 6.70B9 is incredibly slow downloading headers:

Somewhere between the beta (7 and 9 I think) the news header downloading speeds have dropped *significantly* when using B9 to download headers from a.b.hdtv I get just under 3Mb/sec (over the course of a couple days), I switched back to 6.62 and downloading headers from the same server and group I'm acheiving 30+mb/sec (about what I've gotten in the past) Again, this is the same computer, same server, same group, and same day (within a minute or two)
Note, this complaint isn't about loading headers, it's about downloading them.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I know what it is. 6.62 reported the compressed speed and 6.70 reports the raw speed. People got confused getting header downloads that reported speeds faster than their network connection so, it's now showing the raw download speed and not the compressed speed.
I used to get 700-900 Mbps compressed header download speeds to AW. Now it's reporting 120ish which is the real over the wire speed.

that would make sense on my previous provider but my current provider doesn't compress the headers (and claim it's not worth doing, so likely won't anytime soon unfortunately )
Edit: NVM, Apparently the testing of header downloads was.... off? it's now back to downloading headers at 2-3Mb/sec even on the 6.62 release, so the issue is *not* with newsbin (and apparently not with the provider as their testing off network but local to amsterdam resulted in amazing speed). So the problem is somewhere between my computer and amsterdam (and only on headers). Odd, but not remotely your concern.

What security software do you use? If you use SSL, some security software will stomp on the header downloads. Kaspersky is the latests to do it. It does some "man in the middle" attack on SSL and messes with the data.

It doesn't make sense for them because their servers would have to work harder. It makes sense for you and me because you can download headers using 1/10 the bandwidth at 10 times the wire speed.

Hmmmm, at the moment I'm only using windows 10 essentials (that hasn't changed since using this box last year) I didn't think to try and disable ssl to see if that makes things more.... consistent, though since the actual articles are also SSL wouldn't there also be an issue with them as opposed to headers if that was the cause?

I'm having a similar problem with not just headers but all my downloads (headers too). I am at about 1/10 the speed of where I used to be (and watching the downloads I can see they are actually much slower). I'm using power usenet and this happened within the last 2 weeks or so.
utorrent downloads approx. 3 MBps and newsbin @ 2-3 Mbps. byte vs. bit. Newsbin used to say ~ 30Mbps
Any ideas?
B.

Are torrenting at exactly the same time you're downloading with Newsbin?

No and speed limiting is not on.
