Find - File Tab

Found another person mentioned this in the announcement thread. Wanted to give it a topic so it wouldn't get lost.

I can pick from prior searches and it finds matches. But you can't navigate to other matches. Entering new searches does nothing. Pressing 'enter' is the only thing I know to try to invoke the search.

Would be great if search here would filter out non-matches. Especially since there's no find next.

I just think it's broken.

It works more like conventional "find". It highlights all the matching items in one go. You just need to scroll down. I'll thinking about adding F3 support. Not sure how I'd do it at this point.

Right now it's not highlighting anything - even things that match old searches from the drop down.

New searches don't even start. Just get a 'ding' after I hit enter.

Wish it would behave like find in the post lists.

Like I said the one you have is broken.

I don't see it working like a post list. You can move top any of the matches though with the same key sequence or button as the download list. That's what I tend to do. Find/Move Top.

Sorry, my bad, I overlooked that first sentence.

Why would moving to the top be of any use? Just realized I might have left out a key detail. I'm talking about the Files List. I usually like it sorted with the most recent at the top.

BTW, I found a workaround. A tool I bought some time ago continues to prove invaluable. www.listary.com

I keep forgetting it works in many windows apps with standard list views. So now I can just type what I'm looking for and see/navigate the matches.

I'm unlikely to make it work like a post list so you could search, move to top. Do whatever it is you want to do, then re-sort the list. I find it useful to move the things I'm looking for to the top versus scrolling down.

Yeah, don't spend any time considering or changing the behavior on my behalf. My workaround is perfectly suited for the limited times I need to search that list.

I'm wondering though, in your preferred use, you still have to scroll down to find each (highlighted) item you want to move to the top, right? Oh wait - if it's highlighted - then move works on all highlighted items :?:

Yep, all highlighted items get moved to the top.

Ok, nice to know. I'll play with that in the next iteration.

This is why I love these forums.

Never occurred to me that the Files tab could be used as a built in index of downloaded files that I've saved in a couple of dozen different locations and keep losing track of. I've been clearing this list after every session, live and learn.

Brilliant!

Thanks, Bill
