Version 6.60 Final

Postby dexter » Wed Jul 15, 2015 11:48 am

We have released Version 6.60. You can download it from the main download page.

If you are upgrading from a version prior to the first 6.60 Beta, be sure to clear your download list before running the installer.

Big thanks to all who endured the beta process and helped us to arrive at a stable, functional release!

crash when selecting the entire download list(about 30k entries) and pressing pause. Had this happen twice.

In the Groups Tap - the New Posts column still seems to be a random number generator. None of the counts for the groups corresponds to the number of posts when the group is opened.

It's the raw number. If you have filters enabled or "hide old" the numbers won't match what you see.

I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Best version ever. Thank you for the continuous evolution of NB. Also this version is much faster performing all functions on my system than any previous. Thanks again.

I am sure this makes sense to someone.

From the download page

"- If Newsbin retries with less than 98% of files already downloaded, it will continue retrying until 90% of files are downloaded."

:)

Also during installation

Popup for language
UAC window
Popup for language
I'm sorry , but I am not that quick at learning a new language
:)
I assume it may be due to the UAC ?

Before upgrade I had a Group or Groups with about 500 items in it, now there are >35000. It looks like a lot of old posts have been resurrected. (I normally delete posts after I have done what I want with them) Curiously the posts are from 2010-2014. All the posts I had from 2015 have disappeared. Display age is set to 40 days. - OK so figured part of it, My filter changed from Global to Multimedia. Changing back gets me down to 10000 posts all within the last 40 days, but still includes previously deleted (Shift+DEL)

Sorting of status column appears broken.

I've seen some evidence that shift-delete may not always work.

I tend to perform Shift-Del using the right click menu. I suspect this is something to do with the upgrade Was on 6.55) I guess once I get rid of the unwanted they should stay deleted this time.

That's what I get for trying to explain a complicated function in one sentence. If 98% of the files are downloaded and Newsbin has to retry, it will just repair from existing PAR files instead of doing the retry. If it is less than 98% it'll do a retry. After the retry, if more than 90% of the files exist, it'll do a repair to get the rest from existing PAR files. If it is less than 90%, it'll keep retrying until it gets to 90% or runs out of retries and gives up.

Better?

Yes, the installer has a quirk and this shows up after UAC kicks in. I've been waiting for a fix for awhile now. Annoying I know.

You could just say.

"If Newsbin doesn't have enough files to assemble, but does have enough to repair it will, otherwise it will retry till either of these scenarios is reached, or fail the download.

Looking further at the filters something seems odd, or it could be by design.

I created a test filter using a rule from the old filter

Accept ".avi"

Everything else is hidden

In the old system Accept meant definitely want, reject definitely don't want, and anything else was unsure so displayed. Now the unsure items are hidden although they match neither accept or reject filters. Is this how it is now expected to work?

Accept ".avi"

Accept has always meant "only show if matching". So anything that doesn't match won't be shown.

"Accept" is the "filter in" filter.

"Reject" is the "filter out" filter.

If you filter in (Accept) "[.]AVI" and then filter out (Reject) "pussy" It'll try to show all AVI files that aren't about cats.

I'd argue that if you saw something different before that it was a problem with how the filters were written so too much got through.

In the past I had only two possibly three accept filters [.]avi [.]mp4 everything else was reject filters. So it looks like it may have been a bug before which has now been corrected.

They do. When you start, they update and that's becomes the starting point for the rest of the time it runs.

could this be changed? Im not running an unlimited search account and thought setting the interval to 1440 was enough to only search once a day.

There is some strange behavior when a group is first opened or the group is updated from the server.

Specifically, as new posts are added to the screen, the cursor focus stays in the same relative position on the screen, while the posts under it change. Thus if one were to select a post he wanted to delete all posts from a poster, in the interim time focus will have been changed to a different post and all the posts for the new poster would be delete, not what the user would want. For now, I just wait until all the new posts have been added to the group and then start doing things to posts.

It seems to me that focus should be locked to the specific post selected even if it disappears off the page. The user can move to the selected post by hitting the up/down button. It used to work that way.

Hope this explains the issue.

Thanks.

Not tried 6.61 B1 yet but this version still has an issue with the post list still showing the wrong status for downloaded files, this was using the local search. Searched/Downloaded a bunch of pics and the status stayed the same 'Queued for Download' and never changed once completed! If I open the group they are in the status has changed to Idle/Old, not Downloaded!

Hi,

Very good version, thanks for the job :)
Anyway, a small bug in 6.60 ( and with win 10 ? ) : I coudn't put a line on the top anymore (Move to top). This is the first time I saw that.
As there is no news about this in 6.61 B1 or B2, I mention it.

What happens when you try to move to top? Have you tried the buttons and the shortcut?
