It's a sign connections are timing out. Not sure why. Do the downloads continue?

It stops writing to disk while it's unraring. If you notice the "Cache" line at the bottom, if it goes to zero it means Newsbin is waiting for the disk to free up so, it'll stop downloading.

Some people who don't like to see the download stall during unrar increase the size of the cache so Newsbin can store more of the file in memory while unraring.

You could add this to the configuration file. It will make Newsbin use more RAM.

[Performance]
ChunkCacheSize=1000

I added the performance line you suggested to the config file and several apps that used to freeze up while NB was uraring no longer freeze up.

However, I'm also seeing a lot more activity in the log tab than I used to and the messages are the same as what DMPhoto reported.

After getting many log entries in the Log tab, and by many I mean I'm getting thousands (in some cases up to 1500 - 3000+ log entries per download) I noticed that the logfile.txt file had grown to over 360,000 lines and 76MB. Many of the entries are errors where the server reports that a part of the requested file is missing. However, with few exceptions, the files I'm requesting are still download and complete. I'm using two servers, G & A, and it could be that one or the other is missing parts where the other has it.

Since the reality is that some servers won't have a file or a piece of a file (i.e. due to take down requests) is it possible to have a switch set that clears those error message if the file is downloaded and complete? If the file is not downloaded and complete then it might be useful to search the log to see where the problem is but otherwise that's a lot of records to search.

I typically shut down NB at least once a day and restart it so the logfile.txt is cleared after each restart (I believe). The 76MB file was for one session where I was downloading 40 files (for context).

To find the location of the configuration file you are using go to the File Menu and select "Save Configuration As". This will open a file selector showing you the current location. The name of the configuration file is shown in the Newsbin title bar (in case you have multiple configuration files).

I have an action item to revisit the log files to cap them at some size and generate a new one each time it hits this size. Newsbin's never going to dig through the log files and the logging tab itself is self cleaning. So, I'm not sure how useful this would be. I tend to just look at the colors in the download list. "Red = missing" black means "data to download is missing".

Thank you.
I made the change, with no effect. Still getting "dirty connection" errors.

What firewall/security software are you using? Honestly I just don't know.

I'd try enabling "SSLV2" in the server advanced options (then restarting). Does it do it if you disable SSL?

Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

With SSLV2, I get [17:40:29] ERROR DG - Connection Failed: NewsDemon Server Index:1

Without SSLV2 and without SSL, looks o.k. for now.
