We kept getting reports of new file types being posted where Newsbin was unable to determine if it was password protected. Quade has split this logic out into a DLL so we can patch Newsbin in the future as things evolve instead of having to churn out a new version. In addition, there have been some other bug fixes and adjustments. This is a minor release upgrade to 6.51 but worthwhile to do if you are dealing with encrypted rars, whether you have passwords and want to access them, or you want Newsbin to detect them and fail them.

Here is a summary of changes:

  • Logic for examining different file types for spam has been moved into its own DLL for easier patching in the future without having to put out a new release. The new dll filename is LibFiletypeWin32.dll for 32 bit systems or LibFiletypex64.dll for 64 bit.
  • Handles more posting types that Newsbin was not able to identify as spam.
  • Fixed bug where configuration file could be corrupted when adding a new server.
  • Vacuum downloaded.db3 on startup (database compaction)
  • Files list purging wasn't working. Now capped at 10,000 and deleted files are removed from DB.
  • Updated the version of SQLite that Newsbin uses for its database files.
  • Performance enhancement to importing headers.
  • Fixed potential crash issue when re-adding a file to the download list (crashed android, not windows)

The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

I was just working on the ability to transform a test into a regular download. I'll look at it while adding that. Shouldn't be too long.
