not a happy camper here...
newsbin 6.43 crashed.. and crashed with a small window that I could not decipher..
on restart same thing.. tried to reinstall said newsbin was running..
WTF I had to closed it with task manager so it should not be running..
reboot computer.
read some forum stuff
go to 6.50rc3..
ALL MY SETTINGS ARE GONE. All my directorise are there but EMPTY except my download.
going to have to reinstall again (about the 4th or 6th time) to try to get the screen to the 4.3 look as a starting point. I have it so messed up now it is unusable.
THE MAIN QUESTION..
How can I just get the headers for the last 3 days.. NOT all 655 days that my server has..
tried a.b.documentaries . and shut newsbin down after 2 gib. I do not have the TIME or BANDWITH
to do ALL my groups. if it is going to download ALL headers to get the last 2 -3 days..

"Download Age" is how you set the number of days of headers it'll download from a new group or during a new install.

Have no idea with the rest of your problems. You could try "Load backup config on restart" in the options menu. See if you can find a backup copy of your configurations. I think it sounds like something trashed your install and the upgrade just inherited the trashed install.

The backups aren't stored in the data or download folder Unless your whole hard drive was wiped, it should still be there IF you get to them soon enough. The backups eventually get overwritten with the new data.

Sounds like I'm right about something wiping the install though. That's probably the source of the original problem.

I tried this.. decided that after 2 Gib of download it was not working.. need new answer..
and that was just 4 days in 1 group in a.b.documentaries.

If you're using a server that supports compressed headers, it's typically 1/10 the amount. 2 GB = 200 megs of real over the wire download.

10 days seems to be about 320,000 posts. Should have been about 90 megs of download, 9 megs with compression. You have the download age set to 10 and did a "download latest" on this groups? I've seen people in the past do a "Download all" and I have to explain "All means All". I doubt that's the case here though.

How many headers did it download? The whole group seems to have 64 million posts in it.
