I have noticed that after a restart the content of the failed files tab has been automatically cleared. You can actually spot the number change to 0 during the start up process.

Is this the new behaviour, or a bug.

In the past the contents were persistent until deleted, which was especially usefull if Newsbin had an unnormal termination.

There is a setting under Options->advanced that specifies whether the Failed Files list should be persistent across restarts. Have you checked what you have this set to?

I don't remember making any changes, so you saying that made me wonder if the default had changed. Just looked at the setting

Save Failed List on Exit is ticked.

Now a quick test
Unselected, exit Newsbin, restart, Checked Still Unselected.
Selected again, Exit Newsbin, restart. Checked Still selected.

Added files that would appear in Failed Files Tab, exit newsbin.

Restarted , Tab has been cleared, so looks like it is broke :)

Will uopgrade to b10 tomorrow and see if it is still broke

I'll have to take a look. Might be broken.
