How Do I Set a Watch Filter?

Postby BZee » Tue May 28, 2013 6:29 am

NB6.5b8
I'm trying to set up a watch filter but can't get the expression right. I want to watch for last names and in cases of common last names I need to add the first name. I have tried several ways:

Dozzer|John Doe|Sam Smith|Riggings
(Dozzer)|(John Doe)|(Sam Smith)|(Riggings)
(Dozzer|John Doe|Sam Smith|Riggings)
((Dozzer)|(John Doe)|(Sam Smith)|(Riggings))

After downloading headers I may find Jack Dozzer in the subject of one of the headers but it's not in the watch folder (the watch is enabled, monitoring the correct GOG, and has a large enough max file size).

NB6.5b9
using "Rescan Topic...":

Expression - Matches
Dozzer - 33
(Dozzer) - 33
Sam Smith - 4
(Sam Smith) - 4
Sam Smith|Dozzer - 4
Dozzer|Sam Smith - 4
(Dozzer|Sam Smith) - 4
(Dozzer)|(Sam Smith) - 4

Remember spaces = AND

Dozzer|John Doe|Sam Smith|Riggings

(Dozzer OR John) AND (Doe|OR sam) AND (Smith OR Riggings)

is what this line represents. AND means if ALL don't appear, it won't pass the filter.

(john (Doozer|Smith|Rigging)) = John AND (Doozer OR Smith OR Rigging)

(John|Sam|Riggings) (Dozzer|Doe|Smith)

Might be it too. I think this is closer to what you want. I have to verify it works though.

I'll try it and get back to you.

"(Blond (Tits|pussy|Ass)" - is probably more my style.

(Dozzer)|(John Doe)|(Sam Smith)|(Riggings) represents what I'm trying to get.

When testing with NB6.5b9, either "Sam Smith" or "(Sam Smith)" {without the quotes} gives the correct results - 4 matches
likewise either "Dozzer" or "(Dozzer)" {without the quotes} gives the correct results - 33 matches
I could set up two watches: 1 for Sam Smith and one for Dozzer -- this should give me 37 matches (I haven't tried it yet).

To watch for 10 names would require 10 watches. I tried last names only but "Cook" gives numerous matches - cooking, cookbook, cooks etc while I only want "Jan Cook" which is Jan AND Cook. Having Jan immediately preceding Cook would be nice but I'm not doing automatic downloads so I can delete any incorrect matches.
