  • Fixed crash issue on XP systems. Hopefully will fix related problems running under wine.
  • Fixed download stall issue (hopefully).
  • Optimized how AutoPAR works for handling failed repairs.
The download link and more details about this release are available on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Working ok so far.

Forgot to mention in the last beta and also this one - Auto Shutdown - Windows Shutdown shows "Sleep" change it to "Shutdown" and click ok, when you open the options again it still shows "Sleep". I even tried changing it in the nbi file - Windowsshutdown=1 but that remains as 1 also

dex, can you elevate the installer with admin rights? I click the installer (always use the full download not online) and forget about the UAC icon flashing on the taskbar wanting me to click it to allow the install to proceed. Takes a few moments to realise this and catches me out every time :) This is on Win7 x64.

I've looked into bringing that forward but the installer package I'm using doesn't support that for some reason. I'm with you, it catches me all the time too. I'll poke around and see if there are any solutions since the last time I looked.

the problem with nzb's introduced in b5 still exists

when I'm downloading from a nzb some files get the correct group path and some not did some testing.

did a get group (a.b.boneless) all the files pointed to the correct download folder export folder save a number off files to nzb. Cleared the download list and imported the nzb.

some files got the download folder d:\download\a.b.boneless and some pointed to d:\download.

checked the nzb and within the nzb all the files had the correct entry point to alt.binaries.boneless so it doesn't seem to be a problem in the nzb file

I'm using win7/64 and D:\download\$(GROUP)\ as download path

BTW, as of B5, it seems to have misplaced my download history... It now thinks I only downloaded about 1-2GB...

You probably want to be running B6 at this point. I found some significant problems in B5 and before.

I will say though that unrar pathing is set once so, B6 won't fix and files already missing an unrar path. It hopefully will help with any new files added to the download list.

Confirmed a bug, "Filter posts with invalid email address (no @)" under Options->Spam Filter Settings doesn't work. Or perhaps it only filters them during download in which case it's mostly useless except in auto-download mode.

I thought I saw the same issue with B5, but wasn't sure if I had that setting enabled when I downloaded the headers and wasn't sure if it was processed during header download or group loading.

To be sure, I installed B6, made sure the option was set and then downloaded new headers (~4 days worth). I checked several groups and many of them had new posts by posters with no '@' in their From: field. Clearly it's not being "filtered" during header download nor during group load which I assume has to be the intent.

Examples available via PM if requested but it's trivial to find.

Pretty sure it's disabled in B6. Let me check. I ran into some issue with it. I think the issue was that my favorite poster doesn't use a valid address.

I'll get it working for you.

I'm on B6.

Is there any way to restore the download history?

I moved it out of the registry and into "GuiItems.db3". If you use the Sqlite commandline tool, with the right SQL, you can set to value to anything you want. It's called "BytesHigh".

I have the same error as JanJonkman, nzb files (Mine are created by binsearch) end up in 2 different folders:

the download folder root/nzbname or downloadfolder/group/nzbname

My main download folder and for nzbs are both set to:

D:\Newsbin Download\$(GROUP)\$(NZBFILE)\

OK b6 no ssl error, but also NO SSLV2 option. My header d/ls have dropped by x10, I was getting 5MB/s now getting 500KB/s with same settings.

Server is frugal.com

tried
update TB_Config set CF_Value="7500000000000" where CF_Key="BytesHigh";

No change. It immediately gets overwritten when I launch NBP.

You're the one who discovered this problem so, I blame you....just kidding.

SSLV2 is "per server" now. You set it in the really advance server options.

Does this mean B6 solves your problems?

sqlite> update TB_Config set CF_Value=75000000000 where CF_Key="BytesHigh";
sqlite> select * from TB_Config;
Settings|BytesHigh|75000000000|1367577091

I've confirmed there's something weird about this. It's not happy converting the number for some reason.

Haha.
Ok changed it, since I only download headers from frugal and not from my fill (PAYG) servers I have changed it there.

It now loads without hanging everytime, thats a massive benifit, and as I said no error on startup.

Anyway of threading the header downloads when there is >1M of them to d/l? It will download most of them quickly then slows down for the final thread loading the large count group, down to 1Mb from an available 8Mb

I don't know what this means. Headers download and are saved to a flat compressed text file. They then get imported in the background. I get a hint that you're talking about "loading" the headers and not really download. You can see the progress of the import down at the "Cache" line.

No the actual download, when it gets to the high count groups is SLOOOWWWSSSS down dramaticlly, like 500K compared to 5Mb when getting all the groups, it needs more threads to the server to get the high count groups.
I can watch the download incrementing in 20K lumps.

Maybe it is limited to this provider, but I am sure I saw the same when I used usenetnews as my main header provider.

If you have say 10+ threads available why not use them to speed up the download. The actual import is done in no time.

Issue: Posts won't delete
I upgraded from 6.42 to 6.50 Beta 6. I have a GoG with four low volume groups. I open the GoG and three posts show up. I am able to delete the posts, but on the next header update they will reappear.

For testing purposes I had the display age and storage age set to 1 day. When I increased it to 14 days, there are now ten posts that will not delete.

I have tried deleting the entire data folder with the exception of the nbi file and deleting the [Settings] section from the nbi file. These same posts still will not delete.

If I reinstall 6.4.2, I can delete these posts and they do not reappear.

Any ideas? Not sure what else to try.

In the server "really advanced" options set overlap to zero. Some servers require some overlap when doing header downloads but, overlap means a little re-downloading of headers. On low traffic groups that means some headers might re-appear.

Quade, Thanks for the reply. but I check all the servers and header overlap was already set to zero.

Set them to 1 then and see if the symptoms change. I know this is what's happening. I use delete on a daily basis. Easy way to tell it's working. Load the group, delete, close the tab then re-open. If they're not there they were deleted.

I do agree that they are deleted, they just come back on the next header download.

I set overlap to 1 and now there are fewer persistent posts. Same results when set to 2. When going back to an overlap of 0, it goes back up to ten persistent posts.

There is still an issue with directory names. I now occasionally see files that were unrared in a directory named after another file... The directory held 3 other files that didn't belong there and all were decoded to it.

Note that this happened after I restarted the app due to the freeze up.

I don't really have a handle on this issue. Why or when it happens. The unrar path is stored in the downloads.db3 along with the actual download itself so, the question is, is it wrong in the database or is it wrong when it's read out of the database?

There's a data table called "UnRAROptions_V1" which is used to key retrieve this information. If one of you would happen to look in downloads.db3 for this table for something that unrared incorrectly and let me know if the data is correct in the table or not, that would help. This table it purged on a times basis so, even after a download completes, the records will still be there.

It's not happening here so, it's going to be problematic to find. It doesn't sound like there's any specific sequence to make it freeze up.

Ok heres a bit more info. Am unrar'ing a download and running out of space, the space warning is appearing and then crash. "newsbin has stopped responding" windows appears. I have seen the "not enough space" warning during downloads and not crashed. Only crashing during unrar/low space. Am going to clear some space and report back.

Ok with enough space no crash.

Just to repeat "Unrar during download" option is broken

BTW ive also crashed during download only and had enough free space.

I know about this one. Not really sure how to test it. Maybe unrar to a USB stick.

I'd shoot for having at least 3 times as much disk space as unrar size. Otherwise bad things can happen. The option to stop download while unraring doesn't actually stop downloading. It stops diskIO. I know it didn't work in B5 and before but, believe it worked in B6. Working in B7 anyway. I was just testing it.
