individual file control

When there is a group of files, in the past I was able to delete, promote or pause specific ones.
Now, it's only doable on a group level.
In some cases, I find this very useful. For example, an NZB failed and I want to download it again. I have 90% of the files and I want to load the NZB partially.
Using older versions, I could always download the entire NZB and remove all the individual R* files that I didn't need. Now, it's impossible - I have to download the whole thing again...

By 'older versions' you mean prior to v6?
With v6 the only way to achieve this is to load a NZB file into a Post list, hit the + symbol to expand a compacted entry, and then select the entries from the expanded view and queue them individually.
Having said that I i am not sure I have checked that the above works with 6.50B2 although I think it does

yep, prior to 6
I'm really missing that capability. it was much easier, plus there's still the option of selecting the individual files - so I'm not really sure why removing those features was done...

It was not so much removed as not implemented. The new internal architecture of the v6 series means this would be quite a bit of work to implement. Quade has it on his 'nice to have' list so it may one day re-appear.

If you load the NZB with the "Load NZB" button, click the + to expand it, you can add individual files.
Alternatively, if you simply add the whole thing, Newsbin will just check the files already on disk and not re-download them. This check has gotten pretty quick in 6.50.
As for why it works the way it does, it seems like the most likely way to give a good download that repairs and unrars. Under normal circumstances, a single rar of a multi-rar set isn't very useful.

One problem with the current 'check' is that it does not handle the case where the filename was obfusticated so that the name in the NZB does not correspond to the name on disk after download. Is there a plan for 6.50 to handle this case? I must admit I am not sure what that would involve.

It will. The code is in place to ID the filename from the first chunk and use the real filename. It's just not enabled yet.

I know it works quite well when all is well.
The issues I run into are related to partially loaded files, or files that have partially failed.
I sometimes do a "assemble incompletes" in the hope that it will trigger a PAR fix. If it doesn't then I'm SOL, because there is no way to undo what I just did...
