Beta 2 fixes many problems discovered in Beta 1.
- Ctrl-t (toggle date/age) now applies to all lists
- Can now clear search (filter) history again
- Added NBI setting to turn grid lines back on if you really liked them
- Fixed issue where some spam filters couldn't be turned off
- Expanded support for some oddly named rar sets
- Fixed issue where groups in the "Unsorted" group folder weren't getting updated
The download link and more details about this release are available on the
Newsbin Beta Page.

I reinstalled beta 1 today to try it out some more and when downloading, I was missing a lot of files. It seems that when some of the arts of the file is missing, it rejects the whole file. I downgraded back to 6.42 and the files come thru with the missing parts.
I'd like to try beta 2 but there is no mention of this problem so I'll wait to hear if you can produce it as well.
Thanks. Am liking this version and look forward to a better version...

They probably went to the failed list. People were bitching at me (with good reason it turns out) because I was assembling files that didn't have all the chunks but, also didn't have PAR files. So, now files that don't have pars and exceed retries get sent to the failed list so, you can decide to try again or not. You can increase the retries or send them back to the download list from the failed list or both.

ok, thanks Quade but what do you mean by try again? Do you mean to try and download them again or try the new beta? If dl again, I did that and they did the same thing. And it did say something about the retries but I don't remember exactly what it said. I'll have to reinstall it again to get the exact message. Hopefully it'll be able to download files with missing parts like earlier versions because many things I get, I have to use the pars to fix and if it won't give me the files, that would be a deal breaker for me because I wouldn't be able to get some things then. I didn't set the retries high because it's either there or not and it was taking too long to go thru the retries only to find that the parts are surely missing. If nothing else, atleast 6.42 works well for me...
Thank you and have a good day,
Tattoo
ps, I can't understand why people would be bitchin about files with missing chunks. That's not your fault. That's why they post par files and if there aren't none, they shouldn't mess with em then, DOH!!!

Deleted files doesn't go to the recycle bin, NB 6.50B1 & 6.50B2 deletes them directly, bypassing the recycle bin.
Also the chunks folder is growing indefinitly
Thanks

just updated a group - currently in unsubcribed group, all options are not set in properties and no watch folders are being used. It still auto added all posts to the dl list. Any ideas?

You have not by any chance added it to an existing folder at the group level? If so it may be inheriting the autoload status from that.

I don't know what this means. You mean "Unsorted"?

I didn't understand before and I'm twice as "I don't understand now". Your original post made no sense to me. If you have "Subject" in the path then by default the files go to folders named for the subject.

ok the main setting in preferences for download is set to download $subject my bad...
just double checked all groups and GoG and none of them are set to auto dl. Ive also no watch topics setup at the mo, and never had for this group.
btw its just added another 370,000 files to my list. Its taking so long to remove items ive no idea if im going to be able to rescue the list i had before.

if by parent you mean the group that is created by using the send to folder option when right clicking a group(what i thought was called gog) then all have been checked(as i just said). If not can you point me in right direction

No idea then. You could exit, then look at the NBI file for
EnableAutoMode=1
Then delete every one you find in the NBI. Then restart,
Did you ever have any watch items? You could try deleting "Watchlist.db3" after you edit the NBI.

no entries for EnableAutoMode=1 found in nbi
only tried one watch topic, it did what it was suppose to and wasnt for this grp, or even in the same GoG.
btw is it possible to use filter profile for watch topics or is that coming online later? I see this in watch topics but is greyed for me out at mo.

Haven't download much yet with this beta (just got this installed), but I haven't have any issues with the unPAR yet, in fact B1 couldn't unPar one download but did so in this beta, not sure if it's just a one time thing or what. Nevertheless, good work!

Running under wine. NO HEADER download at all. Just tried 3 different providers. B1 was ok but B2 just sits there, no info even with show nttp info selected.
Just reverted to 6.42 and header are fine. (I deleted the b1 exe so couldn't install it again)

In the data folder, I wonder of the folders "Import" "Processing" and "Processed" exist? B1 and B2 depend on those folders. If there's some issue with generating the folders, it might not work.
Header downloads in the 6.50 are far simpler than in 6.42. It basically downloads the headers to a compressed file and a worker thread picks them up for import.

Import & Processed exist but not Processing
As I said B1 worked fine yesterday, but b2 just sits there with the headers in the download list, no errors.

They're basically identical so, it doesn't make much sense to me. Not doubting you but, I'm not sure how. You could try generating the missing folder by hand.
I don't think it uses "Processing" when I think about it. That's another tool Dex and I use.

Nope same error, ie no error, just nowt happening.
With show nntp on it still shows nothing in the logging tab.
Back to 6.42
logging shows
[15:10:59] HIGH - Frugal alt.binaries.xxyyyzz XOVER 26620310-26620514
|224 data follows
and the headers download. Nothing else changed.
Is there anywhere I can download b1 again? (for further testing)

It's unclear if you're seeing this log message in B2 or not. Does anything go into the download list when you update headers?

No in b2 I see nothing at all logged. All the headers appear in the download list as normal.(on both)
I only see the message in 6.42.

Thanks to dexter I now have b1 again.
Installed and it downloads fine.
[15:24:36] HIGH Frugal alt.binaries.multimedia.yyyxxxx GROUP alt.binaries.multimedia.ttttzzz
so logging as well.
So def something that has changed in b1->b2.

I have a theory. That your groups aren't in the conventional folders in the groups tab. B2 tightens up where groups can be drag and dropped too and limits what groups get header downloads. if you D&D'd your groups into say, "custom list" some time in the past or "Watch". They won't be added for a header download.

OK I have them sorted in to GoG's and have had for several years.
I have 6 GoG's with the relevent groups listed in them for what the are, like ebooks, comedy etc.
What has changed? What can I change?
Edit:
Also if they aren't counted why are they added to the d/l list on an update all ?
Edit 2:
You allowed people to create there own GoG's which were happily geting headers - is this now a no no????????

I'm not sure if this is from the 6.50 beta but I haven't seen it before so I'm asking here.
I just found a folder named Chunks in C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Newsbin. There were 65,000+ file in there and were over 24 gig in size. They were named as the files I downloaded. What would this folder be for and is there a way to disable whatever function creates them or would I have to keep a watch on it and delete them myself? I don't see any use for them and wouldn't want these files to take up space that can be used for something else.
Thank you,
Tattoo

Of course this is allowed, that's the point. The only thing that changed is Quade locked down the Watch Lists and Custom Lists from acting like it was for header downloads. These lists are special purpose. The bug was that people could drag regular groups into those lists which was unintentional.
"Custom List" is not the same as the GoG's you can create using the New Folder option from the right click menu in the Groups list.

I was hoping some other Linux user would chime in. It sounds like a particular version is being blocked off the internet but, I didn't think that happened in Linux. It's a common problem on windows with software firewalls.

No firewall and no port blocking either.
Is there anyway I can test it apart from just saying it sits there with nothing logged?

I would rename my .wine folder and do a fresh install of newsbin, do a quick setup and try to download some headers. That would eliminate a bunch of things. When you're done, you can rename your old folder back and you're right back where you were.

Ok with a completely new .wine folder it downloads headers. But crashes alot.
1st crash unregistered - fresh clean install - open and it shows 2 windows the MOTD and a Low disk space (! have 640Gb FREE what is low?) I can't close either window by clicking on OK and the X crashes the program
2nd crash after using my old .ini file I registered and it crashed on exit.
3rd crash after a "normal" close after aborting the header download.
SO obviously something hiding in my "registry" on the old .wine ?

OK 2nd update.
Remvoved new .wine folder. Re-installed and copied over my data from the old .wine folder.
Needed registered but that was 'cause no reg data fine.
No crashes so far.
Header downloads fine.
Installed 64bit now, must be an update to wine.
Now have to re-install my other programs into the new wine folder.

OK now I have b2 working here's a feature.
May be wine/font related :-
the last line of any group listing is half covered by the bottom scroll bar. I.e. scroll to the bottom of a list and the very last line is 1/2 covered by the scroll bar.

two major issues here:
1. I can't get to the server parameters. Double clicking on a server doesn't do anything anymore...
2. I think the software ignores the per-server limit. I'm getting errors that I have too many per-IP connections.

oferlaor, yup reproduced here - looks like the only way to get at the server options is via the Options/Servers menu. As I mentioned in the other thread you said this in, not seeing the hanging onto connections issue, but will keep an eye peeled. Just this moment I snagged a whack of headers, it's a few minutes later and all the connections are disconnected.

Hi there,
Did some testing today and i suspect there is something wrong with the duplicate detector.
test 1
The test i did was download some files and did the same action again and ended with copy files of the ones i already downloaded. I can see that the SIGNATURE.db3 is growing but it looks like its not used by the duplicate detector.
test 2
Used an old SIGNATURE.db3(NB6.42) and downloaded some older files those files were deleted by the duplicate detector

Just did a quick test and seemed to work fine. If you load a group, select a couple of small downloads, quit, restart and load the group again, do the icons for those files show as downloaded(green)? They do here, and just double clicking on them results in no downloads.
I am using an internal version, tho, one up from B2, however nothing in the release notes indicates anything changed with the dupe detector.

Same problem here, tested by using the same nzb, duplicate detector does not seem to work at all.
Also notice that status tab logging always stays at normal , even if I switch it to debug or verbose.

Signatures are fixed and I found an issue with the watch list RE's.
Basically if you want "|" to work right now, you need to put parens on the whole expression. This fix will remove this requirement.
Instead of:
this|that|other|thing
use this:
(this|that|other|thing).

Failed files (Duplicates) are still not reflected in the post list as a RED highlighted lines with the red exclamation icon, status column says it's failed but that's the only indication so it's easily missed.
Also, header downloads don't seem to be appearing in the download list. I pull some headers and nothing shows in the download list then the posts just appear in the post list.
