Timeout issue when downloading headers (?)

Hi Guys,
i noticed it for some time now, almost always (*1) when downloading "the latest group updates" the last item on the list gets stuck and fails with a timeout. (6.4RC6 Build 2059)

screen caps:
Image

log excerpt:
Code: Select all
[20:20:22] ERROR  NNTPSocket  - Server:216.196.109.144 NNTPServer: Compressed Headers - Timeout Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[20:20:22] ERROR  NNTPSocket  - Server:216.196.109.144 NNTPServer: Timeout - Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout

could there be an issue with the last item termination (waiting for further data after the last chunk is already received?)

Edit: That's not quite right, it is not the "last" item, almost always one of the groups stays in the download list and then terminates with a timeout. It's not necessarily the last item on the list.
Edit2: It's never 2 items!

Kind regards,
OMG

(*1) every time i pay attention

 It's does not happen anymore ... Isn't it strange, the moment you complain about something, it goes away...

Dex has noticed something like this too but, only from one of his PC's. We're trying to determine if it's giganews or something else.

Hi Quade,
in the meantime i've seen it again. The group that get stuck is always shown with "Size: 0/10". Nevertheless it is strange that you've seen it rarely, while I can simply reproduce it by running some "group updates" after another. So I guess it is somehow related to my setup.

A true timeout is when you get something like a 10060 error in the log and the connection fails. A stall, where it sits there for a few seconds before it finishes doesn't really qualify as a timeout. It's not clear to me which you're seeing. I do see the occasional stall but, seldom see a connection timeout.

It could be the isp playing with packets. I switched isps from comcast to centrylink and I get this from time to time now.

Hello everybody,

I just upgrade yesterday from my working NewsBin v5.52 environment to NewsBin v6.42 and I have the same problem.

[20:33:36] ERROR NNTPSocket - Server:news.giganews.com NNTPServer: Timeout - Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[20:34:10] ERROR Socket - Error: WSARecv Socket Error Code: 10060 A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

- I've VMware Worstation 9 machine with Windows XP 32 bits that works since a long time.
- I try to close My Windows Firewall and I still have the problem.
- I completely uninstall NewsBin v6.42 and re-install it and i had the same problem.
- I rolled back to my working NewsBin v5.52 environment and it works well.

I don't understand what is the problem.

Could someone help me?

Thanks!
