We are entering the Release Candidate phase for 6.40. This means there is a feature freeze and the focus will be to only fix bugs that would prevent a production release. HIghlights of changes since B7 are listed below:

Summary:
  • Upgrade path for NZB folder mode settings into the new download path scheme.
  • If no groups database is found at startup time, Newsbin will now automatically download the latest groups from active news servers
  • Improved display speed for several features
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes
  • Modified the TCP interface to make user of the new NZB Autoload folders

More details and the download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

English attempt via Google Translate:

I can not find the option when I double click on an nzb that nome example dan.fait.du horse that downloads its me dan folder nome dan.fait.du horse'm blind I thank you for your help

Anyone speak French? I'm not quite getting it from this translation. I have a feeling it's something about folder mode for NZB files. I don't think it has anything to do with horses.

So to be quick:
He can’t find the option when he do a click on a NZB that it’s download in a folder name from the NZB.

Here is in Serbian but understandable:
Voici le méthode en Serbe mais j'ai fait des captures pour l'explication.

Newsbin stops downloading / writing to disk

Finally I'll found howto run Newsbin without spontaneous stopping the downloads done this by enabling the old folder picker running now for 2 days without any problems.

Maybe that's the area you should look at.

So, if you don't have the "old folder picker" checked and you download to folder, the downloads will stall out?

I'm not really clear on the sequence.

Hi,
I think that there is a conflict with the new "Prompt when exit is attempted" option and "Auto Shutdown"
Newsbin shouldn't prompt to confirm exit when exit is automatically initiated (Download list empty)

Yes when i don't have the old folder picker enabled the download will stall. I have this problem in all the 6.4 beta versions and the rc. I don't have this problem in version 6.32.

I did reported it before

I'm not really getting enough details and you're the only one reporting it. That's why I'm trying to get more information. I don't use "Old picker" and I don't get stalling so, there's something specific to your downloading method that's causing this. I just need to figure out what that is.

The only thing that "old picker" changes is when you "Download to Folder" and I'm still not clear if you're downloading to folder or not. Are you "downloading to folder" and is it only when you download to folder that you get this?

I think that there is a conflict with the new "Prompt when exit is attempted" option and "Auto Shutdown"
Newsbin shouldn't prompt to confirm exit when exit is automatically initiated (Download list empty)

I'll have to check it out, thanks. Might want to disable the exit prompt for now.

Old folder Picker only does one thing. It changes how the display looks when you "Download to New Folder" or assign a new download path. It has nothing to do with downloading.

So, I'm working from the assumption you're doing something like "Download to New folder". If everything you download is automatic mode, and you never assign a new path to the downloads, this setting should have no impact on your downloading.

I'm sort of thinking at this point that this is a wild goose chase and is unrelated to your downloading issues.

I'm unclear what your real symptoms are. I have about 10 groups in automode and they all seem to work.

I'm going to dig around and see if setting this does something else unexpected that might have some impact on this.

Duplicate Detector Seems to be Broken. I have it checked as I always have and it's not detecting dupes, just redownloads them and renames them copy (1)

Thnx for the effort and i don't use download to new folder its running completely in auto mode the only actions i'll perform is sorting of the download list.

Janjonkman, the only reason the file picker would matter is if the problem *stopped* when using the old file picker. Otherwise, why does it matter? I think you have issues of stalling, yes, but it's probably for the same reason other users have the problem: antivirus getting in the way, your ISP has started to throttle your traffic, etc. There are methods you can use to address these issues, but it's unclear why you're talking about the file requestor!

Magoo : I've certainly not noticed the dupe detection failing. Not in front of newsbin atm, but I'm wondering if your signatures.db3 file has become corrupted or permissions have changed on it? That's the file that is used to store checksums of previously downloaded files.

I think there might be an issue with the duplicate filter. I added some files via nzb that I created through header posts, had to create the nzb again because of some late additions for it (it was a tv season), by that point I had already gotten some of the files from the first nzb, and after adding the files back into newsbin again to get these (new) missing files, I noticed the files that had already completed at that point (that would have been re-added the 2nd time) which I assumed would be taken to the failed list because it's a duplicate continued to download it's rar files again.
It's not a issue that happens all the time. I've tried with an nzb from an index site of a single episode and it rejected it fine, but another full set nzb redownloaded without rejecting it.

I'm curious if you can repeat one of those failures again, right now? It might indicate whether the problem is just a work flow issue(the order in which things are done) or there's a particular post that simply won't inject into the signature file. I know it's obvious, but keep in mind newsbin uses checksums to track dupes, not filenames, so it's in the realm of possibility they might actually be different posts, too. But yeah, unlikely.

6.40RC1-2023 ~ "Assemble Incompletes" does nothing.

On the "Downloading Files" tab, I right-click on a "stalled" incomplete, select "Assemble Incompletes" and... nothing -- NB does nothing, nothing is assembled, incompletes remain just as they were on the tab.

Are they still downloading or have the download chunks gone "Red" or "Black"? Newsbin won't assemble a file that's still in the process of downloading, meaning at least one chunk is still trying to download from the server. I wonder if that's what you're seeing?

Black. They've also been sitting there for a couple of days now.

Black means the file is incomplete so it will never finish. You can force Newsbin to assemble what it has by right-clicking and using Assemble Incompletes. Having said that I thought Newsbin should do the equivalent automatically as long as the post is at least 48 hours old.

Hmm, unless there are insufficient chunks to assemble, I believe. I think it just sits there since it knows it can't possibly create a useful file, and waits for intervention.

I wonder if the automatic assembly of incompletes is affected by whether there are par2 repair blocks or not? It would make sense that if a file cannot be repaired it was left in the download list for the user to take manual action.

Re: Version 6.40 Release Candidate 1 Available...

PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:46 pm

It is. It looks at how many blocks it has and how many blocks of PARS it thinks it can get and makes a decision from that. If it's got 90% of the file and it looks like there are enough par blocks, it assembles and starts to download pars.

In case it helps diagnose this... The three incompletes appear to have only one or two missing blocks, and all are old posts -- 700-900 days old. Also, I currently have AutoPAR disabled. (If the unassembled incomplete file would partially assemble then there'd be enough blocks to manually fix the set.)
