lots of beta 7 issues...

1. After updating, it lost my settings. I had to redo most of them and it moved the settings directory to c:\documents and settings\<my name>\local settings\App data\Newsbin

2. I have auto downloading groups. It doesn't seem to update them. In older versions, the groups would auto download every once in a while (using a filter). I don't see any updates now.

3. Once downloads are complete, the files seem to stay in the download folder. If I try to delete them, it takes a long time where nothing happens... I ultimately had to use task manager and delete the download files.

Cancel the auto mode issue. The auto update settings were turned off when the settings reset and I must have missed them.

Sounds like an install "gone wrong" and nothing specifically wrong with the beta.

It seems to all come down to "upgrade didn't find existing NBI file" so, the configuration started from scratch. You could probably recover from that with a "Options/Load Backup Config..." selection to make Newsbin show you a list of backup configuration files.

I'm assuming you didn't uninstall first. I wonder if you moved the data folder? Maybe that confused the installer.

didn't uninstall.

I had to move the directories after everything went awry...

Originally the NBI was in c:\hd, now it is under the c:\users\<myname>\AppData\...

Pretty easy to fix that. Install, then double-click the old NBI file to import it back into Newsbin. Shouldn't have to move anything. The NBI file can be anywhere you want. You just have to tell Newsbin where it is.

When running newsbin.exe where does it pick up the nbi from?

What about the groups and servers? They were all wiped out too.

Everything is in the NBI file. Newsbin looks in the registry for the location of the NBI file. If you double-click the old NBI file. Newsbin reads it and sets it to be the current NBI in the registry.

Also, what would cause the downloaded files to remain in the download tab after everything is done?

Lots of things. Need to look in the logging tab for errors.
