Postby dexter » Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:45 am

There have been many fixes for XP machines in Beta 6 and one new feature that people have been requesting for years: the ability to shut down your PC when the download list empties. This feature hasn't been tested extensively yet so please let us know how it works.

Summary:

  • New feature to shut down your PC when the download list empties. Supports sleep and hibernate too.
  • Fixed crash issue and issue loading NZB files on XP machines
  • Fixed issue with Download to New Folder option
  • Fixed issue using group for folder name when downloading from Internet Search results
  • Fixed installer issue where it was prompting for new server login info even if user specified it wasn't required.

More changes and bug fixes along with the download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Any issues with this release, please reply to this thread, contact us through our Technical Support Form or swing by our irc channel - #newsbin on irc.newsbin.com.

Shutdown is VERY untested. I spent my time trying to fix XP (which was a son of a bitch). Just a warning. I tested it a couple times in my XP VM.

That's good to know. There are actually a couple XP fixes in there. Don't ask my why XP just decided to break.

It means you have your logging set to "Debug" mode.

The number "36" means 36 files found in the NZB. The rest is just some stuff for testing. I'll probably remove the messages for the 6.3 release.

Auto-shutdown is a nice new feature and has so far worked as expected for me (on XP). Nice-to-have would be ability to add a custom button to the toolbar to toggle that option on/off (without having to open Options).

I'll consider it. I'm sort of out of space. Thanks for the feedback.

If it starts to shutdown while you're using the machine, you have about 30 seconds to cancel it. It pops up a progress bar and won't kill it till this time passes.

Edit:

To clarify, I like the idea. I just need to figure out where to put it.

I was thinking to put it in a Custom toolbar defined by the user. Could it be added to the "Commands" tab in the Customize dialog somewhere in the "All Commands" list? Perhaps replace one of the "Dummy" entries.

Could it be that disabling "Background Update" is no longer working?
It doesn't matter what the status of the option is - it always does background updating when opening post from a group list.

Background update has nothing to do with displaying the posts or opening a post list.

That said, the worker that does the DB insert is always working so, if it finds records needing import, it imports them. "BackGround update" mode simply turns off and on the generation of the records the background updater processes. If they're sitting there on disk when you start Newsbin, the importer will start importing them.
