Hello,

I don`t know if this is an issue for the beta version threat. But I have never seen this error message before
"HIGH - DG - Connect Flood Delay Active: xxxNews 26 secs Remaining before Reconnect"

:o, only now in 6.30b4.

What does it means? :?:

It just means Newsbin is preventing itself from connection flooding the server. It's shouldn't be a big deal.

I just noticed it in 6.30B6; I started newsbin, I opened a group, it started d/l headers for the first group, then it did this 22 seconds waiting before it would d/l headers for the next group..? I have 12 connections set in the servers list for this server (my only server, giganews), I could probably bump it up to 20 or 40 or something, but it doesn't seem like its a problem hitting the max # of connections, more of... i dunno, I understand the delay to avoid connect flood, but I thought one of the things we were trying to do was use a number of connections at the same time, so we wouldn't have to wait for one thing to get done to do another... like wait for the headers in one group to d/l, then wait, wait, hold on - wait, ok, let's d/l the next group...

Not complaining, just observing what I consider odd behaviour.. perhaps the 'connect flood' you're avoiding is opening the 12, or 20, or however many connections to the server at once, and if I just held on to my panties and all the connections connected, then everything would be cool & I wouldn't notice anything? ;o

BTW - I was looking at the logging tab, because even though in the options/advanced I had logging set to 'normal', it kept showing debug level. I just set it to verbose, then 'ok', 'save configuration', then back to options/advanced, logging to 'normal' (again), 'ok', save configuration. Perhaps an old setting in the .nbi file that I've used since forever? how long? for. ever. :) But hey, at least my logging isn't out of control anymore, for what its worth..

I was wondering why some groups would quickly get about four fifths of their headers and then sit with no apparent activity for a (relatively) long time before completing. This explains it - just never noticed entries like "DG - Connect Flood Delay Active: Giganews 16 secs Remaining before Reconnect" in the log. With my smallish groups, 16 secs is a long time.

What triggers this behavior? I'm only using 6 of the 50 allowed connections for my Giganews account.

havent been able to use newsbin for days now. I reset my password but stil get :
NB 6.40 Build 2059
[16:17:09] HIGH - DG - Connect Flood Delay Active: astra 8 secs Remaining before Reconnect

and

[16:15:53] ERROR NNTPSocket - NNTP Perform Auth - ssl.astraweb.com-The server rejected your login - contact your news service's support department. It's not a Problem with Newsbin : 502 Your per-user connection limit reached

over and over and over again.

not sure why this just started happening

I cut down my amount of connections from 20 to 8 but that didnt do anything
I reset my password

The error message explains itself, odds are you're not giving it enough time for the server end to clear out your connection. It could conceivably take minutes. First step is to verify the maximum number you're allowed, maybe the terms of your account have changed. If it is 20 or more, and you set it to 8, you should be fine, just leave it for about 10 minutes just to be sure.

Next possibility is that someone did get access to your account, and they've just stayed connected. I honestly don't know what happens to an active connection when I change my password. I would expect if you let it continue running and there were no system interruptions, it might just keep going. Perhaps you should contact astra and alert them to the situation, ask them to manually force disconnect if there are any active connects.

AW always has wierd results Sunday afternoons. You might want to try the astra Europe server instead of the US one.
