French subject displayed incorrectly

Is there a configuration needed to display French subject correctly the Search tab?

It's only when added to the Download List that accentuated letters are displayed:

On the disk it looks like this (the temporary files displays even more weird letters):

I'm using 6.20B2 - Build: 1444

Thanks

Don't post what you're downloading here.

I'll check it out. Newsbin converts all subjects to UTF-8 which works fine with any foreign language but, it's possible either the display or the data from the search server isn't properly converted.

This has been resolved but older posts will still show the problem. If you see this in posts newer than 6 months or so, let me know. That's about when we fixed the database.

Sorry, I'm new to Internet searches using Newsbin.

I was not aware of this fact, and from 422 days ago, the subject displays accentuated letters correctly. Thank you!

Another concern, it seems I can't use accentuated letters to do an Internet search,

and can't "search into the search result" with accent either.

And while you're at it, the "Find" function in various tabs don't returns results with terms using accents.

Dex is gone this weekend so, can't work on it now. I'll look at it monday. Even if we fix it, it'll take some time to update the search server since we have to test it first. For me, the solution is to convert to UTF-8 in Newsbin but, then the search server and database has to be changed to understand UTF-8 too. So, I can make the change now but, then we'll have to see what search thinks of it.

Quade, I understand the database issue for the Internet searches, but If you can make the Find and Search function works properly within Newsbin already downloaded headers, it would be greatly appreciated.

I got it working with local search and post lists I believe.

"Extraño" worked anyway. You'll be able to test it in the next RC. Don't know what the word means so, don't hate on me of it means something bad.

Local search and post lists working fine now with accentuated characters (6.20RC2 B1509).

When Internet searches will be fixed?

Thanks

It's on my list, I'll try to look at it before 6.20 final is released.

OK

BTW, because the Internet search function is limited and in short supply, is it possible to activate it only when the search icon or Enter is depressed, right now if you select text in the dropdown list, the search is triggered.

Not currently, no. We consider it a feature that the search is launched when selecting something from the dropdown. We can consider making it optional but it won't happen for 6.20.

It's not something to fix in Newsbin. Newsbin is already sending UTF-8 up to the search server. It's the server that has to change and we don't change that quickly. Some bugs in Newsbin will only impact some people. Bugs in the search server affect everyone. That's why upgrades on the server are slow. So we can test before we make changes on the real server.

Yeah, this specific fix is independent of the Newsbin version. I'll be doing work on the search server next week and hope to include this fix at that time.

Have you found something interesting? Is there still hope?

Yes there is hope, it's on my list. I've been working on getting the file information to show up in search results among other things. I have to admit it isn't my highest priority but it is on my list.
