Version 6.11 Release Candidate

We are doing a quick-turn release to address a few small bugs introduced late in the 6.10 RC process. These are small, safe fixes that does not warrant a full beta test process. Unless someone finds something significantly wrong, this one will be release as 6.11 in a few days.

The main push for this release is to fix one of the remote control commands used by the NBRemote for iPhone/iPad application. Here is the complete list:

  • Fixed issue in TCP interface PAUSE command.
  • Fixed issue where Image DB could crash Newsbin.
  • Fixed issue when filemap fails. Impacted processing large files on 32 bit systems.
Now renames file on failure instead of leaving .NB2's lying around.
  • Fixed handling asian languages encoded in UTF8 which is against usenet spec

The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Any issues with this release, please reply to this thread, contact us through our Technical Support Form or swing by our irc channel. It's #newsbin on irc.newsbin.com.

It seems to me that the Speed Limmiter is broken again since the last 2 Builds

I am working with a 100 Mbit Cable TV Internet Pipeline and GIGANEWS US and EUROPE Servers and NEWSHOSTING as a BACKUP - when I Switch Of the Speed Limiter of I get full Bandwith - when I switch it ON I only get max 15-20 Mbit even with the slider on 100% - please chek for the next Version

Mit OS is W7 64 Bit Ultimate German / 6 GB RAM on a QUADCORE Intel CPU

Speed-limiter is working here without any problems. I tested on a 100Mbit fiber connection, set it on 50Mbit and i get ±54Mbit. I also use the x64 variant.

It's weird. I'm getting a mix. It's working for me but, I've seem two reports claiming it's not working. I wonder if this is a function of PC speed or PC load? Not really sure at this point.

Hi Quade

I do not realy think its a PC LOAD Problem because when I switch of the speed limitter I get full speed - so my computer is capable of full speed - when I switch it ON I get max 20-25% even with the slider on MAX

On my computer I work with W7 Ultimate German / Quadcore Intel CPU / 6GB RAM - the downloads go to a internal SATA drive

this should be enough - its working full speed ahead with the limitter of so I think there is a problem with the limitter

Maybe. It doesn't explain why it works fine here. Both 100 Mbps to the real servers and up to 500 Mbps to my local server. That's why it's a mystery.

Something minor.
As an item completes its unrar The row clears except for a 'red exclamation. icon which replaced the 'blue tick' in the download description. Its only there for a second

Note I have only seeen it on larger files 2GB

Reality check needed.

For the 'Files List' tab, what should be in the list?

I thought it was downloaded files, but on examination only some items I have downloaded are listed, which begs the question of what should be there

It is files you have downloaded.

However if you have autopar enabled, then on a successful decode the files in a rar set are removed and the decoded contents are added instead. This makes sense as at this point Newsbin will have removed any rar files that made up the file set just decoded.

In other words, at any point in time the files that are listed should reflect what is actually on your hard disk.

Are you seeing something that does not fit this pattern?

Basically yes. Today a number of files downloaded OK, and autopar and unpacked, none appeared in the list, hence the reality check. Yesterday I had a failure to autopar and all parts are listed, similar with ones not able to be automatically unpacked.

I will clear the list before my next batch of downloads, but it seems that when an item is unpacked succesfully it does not appear in my list. I am sure in the past it used to.

Next downlaod is in the morning , so will see after that

Any files you move after download will be removed from the list on restart. It purges itself too when you get more than some number of elements.

You are correct, I just downloaded a file and it appeard in the list, but after re-start it was gone. I guess seeing only one part of the equation at a time was why I missed it. Many thanks

Well, if you didn't move the file, it should still be there on restart. There's an option that controls whether the files are restored on restart. If you didn't move the file, I'd check that option.

here is the situation:

i fed newsbin a certain nzb(dvd). it started downloading, at the end of download it showed that there were several incomplete files( articles not found) and they had status "downloading" for quite some time. Instead of geting par2 files and starting repairing newsbin just kept "downloading "them i waited for 5-10 minutes then i had to unpause par2 file and only then newsbin started repairing it.

Where can i change that kind of newsbin behaviour?
SO that if files are incomplete then it stops trying to download them within say 5 min max and starts getting par2 files
did i miss something here7

By design if a file has recently been posted Newsbin sits and waits in case the missing part arrives. I think this definition of 'recent' is within the last 48 hours. Details on how to change this setting are in the Advanced section of the User Guide.

Is this the one where 1/2 of the body data is missing and only headers are delivered by the server? I seemed to remember reading about something like that. If so, it's such an odd failure mode, it might simply not be handled properly.

mm i dont think so.. you mean 1/2 of the data from each these 2-3 files files was absent? or 1/2 of all rars?

PS internet search limited to 1 day shows stuff posted many days ago
.. i remember this bug was present in earlier versions.

Anything that comes up with older dates had at least one record with a date within the date range you specify. I'm thinking I might have to adjust the date I send back to be the newest instead of just the first date found when the record is retrieved to be sent back.

111111.s06e03.720p.hdtv.x264-immerse.sample.srs
111111.s06e03.720p.hdtv.x264-immerse.srr

did i do something wrong?

nfo and sfv masks work well

How and where are you setting the filter? Is this the post unrar filter or a filter profile uses during download?

I got some memory consumption. I need to kill newsbin process nearly every 8 hours if i don't want it tu use 6 GB of memory and nearly crash my server. Is there any parameter/tricks about memory issue into newsbin?

Do you have a bunch of partially downloaded files in the download list?

[SETTINGS]
MemCacheLimit=0

Exit Newsbin, Make a backup of the configuration file, then edit it with wordpad and add "MemCacheLimit" to the settings section.

Then see what happens. If you have a bunch of unfinished files waiting in the download list, they all consume ram.

It's a sign that your files aren't finishing. The question is why?

its the post unrar filter.

I'll check it out. It's somewhat dependent on whether the SRR's are mentioned in the PAR files. I'm going to guess they aren't though. Newsbin looks at the files that came out of the rar and the files mentioned in the PAR to determine what to delete. If that's the case though, the regular filename filters should delete them. Like in the global filename filter profile.

i wanted to ask if newsbin showing the speed higher than it should be is going to be fixed anytime soon

It was observed my many people.
for instance, now im downloading at 6.6Mbyte\53Mbit speed. but i dont have it that high
My max real speed is 5.8-5.9 Mbyte (47Mbit) which is what my plan delivers
Every other application - download manager, other newsreaders, torrents show it correctly yet NB tends to "delude" a user.

Its not that big of a deal , more like a minor irritation but still...

PS
It seems ive found a bug
if you have override unrar is OFF + "add a prefix" ticked on(even if its grey) it creates a second folder named after the first one
Image
If you have

i search for XXX via NB search, select it , select "download to existing folder",navigate to I:\hellonzb, name a new fodler ggg, NB starts downloading, unpacks and i have this
I:\hellonzb\ggg\ggg\files

If i remove "add a prefic" it works as intended -> I:\hellonzb\ggg\files

Turning override OFF should block this prefix(greyed out)

What does the speed in task manager show? Newsbin is set to show the same speed as task manager.

Path override thing is on my todo list. Thanks.

I added several files into the download list from the wish list using Bypass Filters.

While the item downloaded, there was no progress bar indication until the Unpacking. The Size was increasing.

This only seems to happen for those files detected as duplicates
