Version 6.01 Beta 1 Available...

Version 6.01 Beta 1 has fixes for a number of bugs that were discovered once version 6.0 had a broader audience of people using it. There are also a few more features re-hooked up that were missed from Version 5.

Summary:

  • Hooked up retries for failed header downloads.
  • Hooked up speed and time remaining display when you dwell over the taskbar icon.
  • Load drop down in the post list tab goes back 4 years now.
  • Now only displays the MOTD if there is something new. Unregistered shows the MOTD all the time.
  • Hooked up the Ctrl-G shortcut to perform a header update.
  • New commands for the remote control interface. Quade has documented what it has so far here.

The download link and more details about the bug fixes are on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Any issues with this release, please reply to this thread, contact us through our Technical Support Form or swing by our irc channel. It's #newsbin on irc.newsbin.com.

Awww, upgrading from 6.0 resets the layout: will this always be the same for future releases?
(I had moved things around to look like v4)

Also, any chance to use the old toolbar.bmp? I liked that..

EDIT: Ehr.. is it me, or the windows are not movable at all now? Floating/Dockable doesn't change anything..

- The installer should have given you the option to reset the GUI or not. One of the checkboxes.

- No on the bitmap. It's nothing like it was before.

- If the lock is locked (on the toolbar) you can't move the windows.

- The installer only asked me if I was upgrading from older v6, nothing else, and I ticked it on. (using XP 32bit)

- Ok

- Ahh, yes, the GUI did reset, but left the Lock locked! Works now, thanks.

You scanned it, you didn't read it. Maybe I need to word it differently. It said:

Installer wrote:
Reset User Interface:

Select if you are upgrading from an older Version 6 release or if you are switching languages

Maybe I should change it to say "Restore user interface to default settings"

The thing is, sometimes newer V6 releases require that the GUI be reset to pick up new functionality that was implemented. We'll have to think about it.

Ah ok, what I understood was: "if you are upgrading from v6, ticking will leave GUI as-is, otherwise it will reset it."
But honestly I totally forgot about the "Reset User Interface" part because I thought it was implicit depending on the selected choice.

Ok then, got it. So in this case it wasn't necessary to tick it?

Was not necessary to reset the GUI. I have changed the wording so it will be more clear for the next beta.

It will say "Select if you need to reset the User Interface or if you are switching languages"

I think I've found an issue:
- Downloaded a set of RARed images
- Newsbin unrarred them
- After that (rars were already deleted) Newsbin started showing each pic in the thumbnail preview tab, using almost 100% of CPU for about 10 mins.

I disabled the thumbnail preview, but it kept pushing CPU, and when I re-enabled preview, the pics were still there, cycling one after the other.

It scanned all the pictures then went back to normal.

I was confused by this as well. Perhaps you should just say what you just said... 'reset required to pick-up new functionality..'.
Anyway to provide us with the ability to 'save' our existing settings and restore those with only 'new' stuff going to 'default' until we change.??? Or to print out a list of them to go by? Something to help remember all the settings (or not need to)??

I choose not to reset,so is that why this 'feature' does not seem to be working for me?

server not reconnecting after interruption in Internet connection.

Have to close NB and reopen.

EDIT: I think I am wrong about this, ignore for now. Something else was happening..

Taskbar is probably incorrect, it's the tray icon that will popup the speed and time remaining.

Have a nice day

Dropdown box "Reload Group data" displays text "Display Age" regardless of choice (data itself is being displayed correctly for the chosen month), GUI reset was done by the installer. Reverted to 600F1 - no such issue.

Hello ;)

I found another (perhaps?) issue...with xtm files and autopar.

Sometimes, results files are bad: In my case, the rar file I get contains errors.

So I try to join XTM files with xtremsplit...same problem. (end of file before as expected in winrar)

If I run xtremsplit with "run as administrator", it works fine...

Must we run newsbin as administrator too? or is it a bug?

(I hope you understand what I mean, don't forget I'm french lol)

Spend a nice sunday...

Regards

Nico

Shouldn't have to but, I don't know. The XTM files I tested didn't need it. I suspect this is something specific to your PC.

XTM files are REALLY horrible, you should try to convince your countryman to stop using it.

Edit:

Confirmed your report Evil thanks.

Thanks Quade for your answer...

Yes, I don't know why people use XTM files...and, yes, sometimes it works.

Never mind ;)

And what about "cursor in download file tab issue" in my previous reply?

Have a nice day

Nico
