We have built the final release of V6 and are hosting it here a day in advance just to make sure we didn't screw anything up. There were a couple of minor changes for the final build.
Summary:
- Fixed issue with Filter Profile file size filter applying wrong value when selecting a size
- Cosmetic fix to the Display Settings dropdown to show the selected option
- Rebuilt the supporting .dll files for final releases
The download link is on the
Newsbin Beta Page.
Version 6 will be released tomorrow, July 1, 2011 unless something critical comes up. If you find anything wonky, contact us through our
Technical Support Form or swing by our irc channel. It's #newsbin on irc.newsbin.com.

Newsbin Pro - Build: 1019
In the Download List, CTL-Up/Down no longer appears to rearrange items.
Download selected as a single line - Expanded in the D/L list - perhaps this is correct - the initial selection was a single line from a group.

Hmm, it's working here, on Linux/wine no less, same release... Wonder if a reset GUI during the install would address this?

I just tried expanding before selecting to D/L and by moving them this way to the D/L list, rearranging works as expected. My idea about selecting as a single item disabling the rearrangement ability is probably correct.
Not a release killer...

Dexter, something I have noticed for a while in the installer, but never gotten around to report:
After I ok the UAC dialog, the Newsbin installer will open its window center screen.
The problem is, it seems to open at the bottom of the window stack, so if you already have a window in the middle of the screen, it's like nothing happened:-)
Not really a problem, but I guess it has the potential to confuse users, especially when 6 is hitting a broader audience at release.

I'm aware of it and have been waiting for the nsis folks (Winamp) to put out a fix. It's kindof out of my control. Development seems to have stopped on this installer package I use so it might be time to look elsewhere.

After installing RC3, I noticed that the workspace.xml file was deleted and my setup lost...so with the final version, I made a copy beforehand and replaced it after the install. Everything seems fine and I assume that there is no problem using the file from RC3?

It might work, it might not work. If you have weird problems with the display, deleting that file is the first thing I'd do.

The windows stayed their size and position but the categories within them reset (after a couple of times)....so if it happens again, I'll just nuke the workspace file and start from scratch.

Has anyone else noticed file size misreporting? I see files that NB says are tiny but are much larger once downloaded...could be Astraweb or could it be purposeful malformed uploads?

If you see something like 200 posts, each one says 20M, and you try to download it and you get a virus that's 20K, that's 'normal'. Basically it's getting collected together as one post, and you don't want it. The dead giveaway is many posts that aren't rars that are exactly the same size.

No, it's non viral files, both video and jpgs, that are posted as too small until downloaded. It's just certain groups though so must be malformed files.

The size Newsbin reports is what the server tells me. I've seen in the past where the server lies about this so, it might be the server.
