Version 6 Release Candidate 4 Available...

Postby dexter » Sat Jun 25, 2011 6:25 pm

More cleanup work for Release Candidate 4.

Summary:

  • Restored support for old .rar file formats, i.e. .rar, .r01, .r02, etc.
  • Fixed Mark Old background mode
  • Changes to installer, made the Reset GUI option a checkbox on the upgrade popup.
  • Added logic to better handle if a news server delivers bad article numbers.

More details and the download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Installer worked fine over my RC3 install, 64bit Win7.

However, just went to a group that I pulled headers from last night (a.b.worms) and NB has downloaded headers ranging from 6 minutes to 877 days? Seems it's ignored the range.db3 and downloaded whatever headers it wanted :) Plus it didn't show all those posts again once header download had completed, had to do the 'Show Posts' trick to see all the headers.

Still think a complete wipe/re-install of NB is on the cards!

What server? We've had reports of one of the servers returning bad header info that might cause wacky behavior like this.

Dex, ssl.astraweb.com is the server I have set in NB for headers!

Just pulled headers again from the same server and got 1 days worth, which is what I expected. Don't know what caused the previous header update to go wrong but seems correct today.

The server Dexter was talking about is Astraweb , because they are undergoing upgrades on their headers servers and until all the upgrades are finished some groups might not work as expected.

Had some odd logging. As I've only started to use V6 regularly with this RC since my initial flirtation so I'm unaware whether this has been happening for some time.

[11:09:58] HIGH NNTPSocket ssl-eu.astraweb.com - 430 No such article
[11:09:58] ERROR NNTPSocket ssl-eu.astraweb.com - Socket HandleError - Server:block.cheapnews.eu SendCommand - Server Reports that a Post isn't on the server: 430 No such article
[11:09:58] ERROR Download Engine NewsgroupDirect - DL_OpenItem -DL_DI - Failed to retrieve Article from Server::Cheapnews

I don't know why in the above example it refers first to Astra and then Newsgroupdirect when it's talking about Cheapnews. Is this due to my 'unusual' multiple server set-up? FYI Astra (1 connection) and Cheap (12 connections) are on fill whereas NewsgroupDirect is on normal.

It's fixed already in RC5. Just a reporting error.

Thanks for the clarification, seemed odd for a near final release to suddenly go wacky.
