Server Name Resolution

Postby soneal » Tue May 31, 2011 9:52 am

Just installed v6 beta today for the first time.

All my setting came over fine however. I kept getting an error stating the address was not set.

I was able to resolve the issue by nslookup on my server and entering the actual IP address. Is there something im missing, am I supposed to surround named hosts with a special character or something?

Any help would be appreciated...

What did you set the address to? You shouldn't have to change anything when you install 6.

I had to change the name from the server name
Code: Select all
news.rhinonewsgroups.com
to the actual ip address nslookup resolved to
Code: Select all
216.196.97.160
.

It had always worked before with v5.59. I even tried changing it back and it still could not resolve it.

I doubt Newsbin is directly related to this, it's a DNS problem from the sounds of it. What happens when you ping news.rhinonewsgroups.com in a shell, does it work? FWIW, it pinged correctly here...

You're throwing me off by calling it the "server name". The name is simply a display string. It's the address you changed, I hope. I have to agree with D though. If the IP address works and the symbolic name doesn't, this suggests there's a DNS issue outside Newsbin.
