upgraded to final from rc7. noticed that the update ui is now super slugish to show data. keep seeing 'display pending for update'. never had these before :/

The difference between RC7 and the 6.80 release isn't that great. How big is the "DownloadMarker.db3" and the "Downloads.db3"?

Something significant has changed between RC8 and Final....

The import file size has reduced by a factor of 10; it looks like the number of headers being put in a group's single import file has gone down from 1,000,000 to 100,000 headers between RC8 and Final.
This looks like a good thing for me, as it seems to have reduced the incidence of fragmentation on the hard drive that hosts both the import folder and the spool. It also looks like the -wal and -shm db3 files are also smaller and less fragmented. This seems to have speeded up the import process overall, on my system, at least - thanks Quade.

I've also noticed that the debug log seems to hold less data. In the past, each group rep was logged, with a start and end header range for a group import file. Now, it looks like only the number of reps and the overall start and end header number for a group is being logged in debug mode. Personally, I'd prefer the old way of logging, even though the above change might have increased the amount of data being logged - this is a DEBUG log after all....and sometimes the greater granularity of logged data and timing is interesting in seeing what is going on.

Stavros.

DownloadMarker.DB3 = 2,568 KB
Downloaded.db3 = 688 KB

any way to change the aggressiveness of this:

Sorry, I was wrong about the detailed logging of the reps. They were in the log, I just didn't see them. :oops:

any way to change the aggressiveness of this:

Why would I want to? If you're talking about the logging, you can turn the logging down in the options.

because with newsbin idling theres a log every 15secs of it doing its thing.. but i may not double click/give it a nzb for 5 days... so thats a lot of logging noise/needed disk io.

People who dump NZB's into an autoload folder want them to load now. "Now" being within the next 10 seconds. I'd suggest turning the logging level to less than debug if you don't want to see debug level messages. Error messages will always show no matter what the logging level is set to.

No problem until RC4.
Dex and I are puzzled by this. We're waiting for some way to characterize it. It's happened to enough people for us to consider it a real issue but it's not happening to me or apparently most other people, so fixing it might be problematic.

Did you delete the "downloads.db3" file as I suggested in one of these posts?

Any news about our download false start (or not start at all) ?
Deleting "downloads.db3" has no effect.

A potential fix will be in 6.81 Beta. Quade is still working on it. You are on the list of people to be notified for early testing. We only have 5 people on that list (people who have reported this specific problem) out of over 5000 downloads (so it's a .1% bug). It may very well take more troubleshooting to get to the bottom of this but we are working on it.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I nailed the issue which caused some people to have to wish list the downloads before sending them to download. Should have a beta in the next day or two and Dex has compiled a list of people to offer it to try.

I have unchecked the box so that MOTD doesn't pop up every time I start it but it still keeps popping up?

In the help menu re-register. Normally not being able to disable the MOTD means the registration was lost.

Did you restart Newsbin as it asked? If that doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what will.
