Pars work fine here too.. the stop downloading while repairing/upacking is still a bit funny though... It continues to download a bit until cache is full and you'd expect it to stop then but it only stops for a little while. It apparently still writes the cache to disk but a lot slower. When it's empty again it just restarts downloading.

It sounds to me like you should expect. It's about disk IO, not specifically downloading per se, so Newsbin tries to sneak in any download IO it can, when it can.

Ok, well then it works fine I guess but the option should probably be renamed.. it's confusing this way.

It's really a tempest in a teapot. It's essentially correct, you just set it and forget it. I think the relevant thing is that it helps with slower disks, rather than a wordy description. If you have a good suggestion, though, throw it out there.

Sorry for the late response will try to narrow down the problem:

I'm using windows 7 64 enterprise on a intel core i7 with 16 Gb memory and a 120Mb internet connection from Ziggo the netherlands and using the 2 nntp servers: Ziggo(slave) and XSnews(master)

It looks like a random process sometimes when i'm not sorting at all nb6.40B2/64 stops spontaneous whit downloading when i try to go to the logging tad nb crashes completely this happens when i have 40+ items in the download list once it even happened when there were only 5 items in the download list. The situation when i can trigger this behavior is when i have 500+ download in the list and i perform for example first a description sort then a date sort, size sort and a sort on download path this in a short period.

Also i want to point to the fact that in my config I’m using the parameter ChunkCacheSize=200 en that in de nb interface it still presents cache 88/100 changing the value of the ChunkCacheSize doesn’t influence the presentation in the interface.

Regards,

jan

Have you moved that setting to the new Performance section within the .nbi? If you have not it would explain why it is not having any effect.

Just to check, you're using 6.40B2 using english? I don't think the translations are ready and it's not safe to use old Language files. Using old Language files could cause crashing.

Ahhh that should be the reason didn't change anything in my .nbi maybe also the reason for the crashes?

It shouldn't cause any crashing.

I will verify this. It's really not clear to me why it would crash for you.

just an idea but wouldn't it be convenient to add a debug checkbox to beta versions to enable debug-logging?
Something the we beta testers can turn on to give you more in-depth logging..

I agree. The trashing only stops once the cache is empty, so I'd much rather downloading stop completely once a repair or unrar starts, and only resume when no repair or unrar is occuring.

There's a new one being tested internally which probably has the fix. Be available soon.

Yeah, the continued downloading isn't the problem. It's just a symptom of the problem.
