Version 6 Bug Tracking

This is the place to help test and discuss Version 6 Beta releases.

It wasn't the installer, I changed the defaults in Newsbin. The installer doesn't really know much about the GUI layout. All it can do is delete the workspace and set it back to the beginning.

It wasn't the installer, Quade changed the default layout for the tab positions which forced the change for everyone. Once you set it the way you want, it'll remember again.

In which case that IS strange. My tabs did not get reset by the Installer.

If you upgraded from anything prior to 6.01B4, tabs will get reset to the bottom.

Yes this was my first upgrade to a beta in this version, so the tabs did get reset. No problem.

I turned the grid off on the Groups box. If I exit NBP and fire it up again, the grid is back on. Any way to make the change permanent?

Is there a way to turn the grid off in the Posts boxes?

Grid lines in the group tab retain their setting for me. Try cycling through checking, saving, then unchecking the option again, then close and restart Newsbin and see if it starts working. If it doesn't there could be some permissions problem writing to the configuration file.

There is currently no way to turn off grid lines in the post lists. We can consider it.

I'm using the Toggle Gridlines option in either the Groups menu or by right-clicking the Groups box. Is there an option to check somewhere else?

Just toggling then exiting did not work. Not a permissions issue - the ini file is getting updated.

What OS are you on? I just recreated this on XP but it works on Win7 for me. Running 6.10 RC3 build 1298 on both machines.

I had to re-install Newsbin after a hard drive crash (drive went so far south the system wouldn't even boot with it in the system.) So I have the latest 6.10 Beta RC3 build 1298 release setup. I'm getting an error with this new installation " DbThread - internal crash" when Newsbin is trying to load up this large pictures newsgroup after a Show All, alt.binaries.pictures.bluebird.reposts.

RC4 is undergoing internal testing right now. It has fixes for some possible problems found during unit testing that may address this. If testing today goes well, I'll make it available on the forums tonight.

Shawn, there's a good chance you ended up with corrupt data files. You simply want to "Download all Headers" again on that group.

Hi,
I'm having a problem with some NZB's which put par2 files and rar files in a different download list.
The files won't unrar.
Ticking D&D/Load NZB to one Post List doesn't help.
Is there a way to solve this problem?

What version are you using? 6.1 doesn't care if the pars are grouped with the rars as long as they download to the same download location.

I'm using Newsbin 6.10 Release Candidate 6 build 1339.
Had it also with older releases.
I will pm you a problem nzb.
If you don't have the problem I will install newsbin from scratch.

Found a little one in 6.20RC1

Menu option File|Load PARS...

Gives you *.NZB instead of *.PAR*

Using the 6.30B2 right now and noticed, that when NZBs are associated with NB and are being loaded directly from the browser ("open with"), sometimes it'll give you "another instance with the same config is running" error and doesn't add the files.

That sounds like nzb's are associated with a different version of newsbin. Do you have more than one version installed?

no, I just installed the latest beta. no other versions.
It happened two times, next time it went through. Now everything seems to go fine. Maybe just a glitch of who-knows-what.

I've seen some oddness, rarely, when it's the session after just having been installed, before a reboot. Probably just a windows thing.

Hello,

I have a strange problem since I have updated to 6.30B (used B2 before, just updated to B4, but seems to be still the same problem). When I am downloading files, it sometimes happened that files are marked in status column for downloaded correctly ( no red or black boxes in the progress bar too, even size column show correct size) but on the disk I have NOT the complete (RAR)file. 1 or 2 blocks, sometimes more, are missing to a complete rar file. Of cause NB don`t try to complete this files even you start them again with "retry downloading" or use the "resume download" function, because it thinks they are complete already.

Especially if I have closed NB with some incomplete files still into the download list, this happens very often. When I start NB again, it starts with downloading to finish this incomplete files first, and they get marked as downloaded pretty soon, but most of them are not complete rar files on the disk. If I compare the nb2 file size on the disk, the files who get wrote later as correctly rar files and this one who are incomplete rar files later on, they have the same size :? I hope you understand what I mean.

If I delete this files on the disk, remove them from the download list, and put them again into the download list ( with "bypass filters" of cause), then it works correctly.

I didn`t realized this problem first, because the auto rar function repairs this "incomplete" files at last if there are not too many missing blocks.

Just upgraded to v6.30B4, and was immediately presented with a new (unfortunate) behavior. I had renaming turned off (preferring to skip re-downloading a file if it already exists), and a large .NZB rar pack downloading. Upon launching NBPro, it brought in all my previous items, tried to download the first part of the NZB rar pack. It saw that that first part was already downloaded, and instead of skipping that individual part and continuing down the list, it moved the entire .NZB group to the failed downloads list, giving it a "HFC:File already on Disk, no Autorename for :xyz.part001.rar" error.

It's more useful to start your own thread now, this was here in early v6 days and is less useful with dozens of unrelated issues.

So, you never saw this with the previous release? Do you know which version specifically you were running and the exact release you are now? Lots of users might not realize they're running an older one.

I'd go into the options, click "Open Data Folder" then exit Newsbin and delete the file "Downloads" or "Downloads.db3" (whichever you see). This will wipe the download list.
Then start, add some downloads and retry.

V6.4 build 2059 on XP

Minor bug: in the tab heading text, the number of files in tabs does not zero out when erasing all files. example, if a.b.something contains 20 items, it shows 20. If I delete or mark-as-old any of them, the number in the tab heading updates corectly. when I delete or mark-as-old all of them, the number does not get updated.
To make things more fun, the bug is not consistent :)

Also, "save configuration" does not save toolbar customization.

I have had this issue since the feature was first added many moons ago. I am also the type of user that leaves newsbin open for weeks at a time with the post lists open. Not sure if this exacerbates the issue or not.

I've upgraded to 6.41B4 from an older release version. I used to be able to download groups of par2 files which had the same names but belonged to different data sets (so not duplicate files) into the same folder by using Download/Bypass Filter They would be renumbered as I have set up for other files. That no longer seems to work

I'd suggest using different folders.

I've been toying with the idea of forcing a rename on all PAR files to include the PARID meaning a unique value for each par set. Either that or always downloading the pars to a folder named for the PARID. In order to prevent these name collisions.

This is an old thread, next time it's worth making a new one. As far as your problem, depends on which build you're running - over the course of it's life, v6 has had tweaks to the behaviour when the disk fills up. I believe the latest version pops up a message asking you to clear out some room.
