Odometer 6.52b1 b3183

Postby wiggins09 » Fri May 09, 2014 4:35 am

I was watching the odometer & noticed something a little odd - when d/l ing headers the speed shown is 6-7x my actual linespeed.
Imagine my delight - I just upgraded my line & its waaaay faster than I expected.... :D
Then the regular files started & it dropped to what it is supposed to be

Anyway thought you might want to know.
Loving the program!

Servers that support header compression will give you close to 10 times your normal download speed for headers. So, I'd call it a happy thing.

that figure is the 'data rate' rather than the actual link speed. If downloading headers then the uncompressed size of headers is counted. If you are using a server that supports header compression, then since headers compress well the effective rate can be up to 10 times the physical link speed.

For files (which are normally already compressed), the rate quoted is close to the physical link speed.

I figured it was something to do with how the server /reader viewed headers.
It is a new one on me tho, as my previous reader didn't do it using the same server. Thought I'd mention it in case it was a bug.

Can you ever have too much speed? A 500mb line would be pretty cool :)

Yeah no kidding. I actually have some customers with lines that fast. Not in the US of course.
