expanding d/l age to capture older posts

Postby bertm » Tue Jul 06, 2021 8:01 am

I have reset d/l age to capture older posts. "d/l special xxx older posts" yields no results.

Is there a way add older posts without d/ling all headers?

Right now the way to do it is to manipulate the header tracking database.

1 - "Download age" sets how far back in time it goes.
2 - "Storage age" sets how many days worth of headers it'll keep. Remember is this is less than the age of the headers you download, the headers will be thrown away

- So pick a group, right click "Post Storage/Use Download age"
- Set the download age for how far back in time you want it to start at.
- Download headers normally.

If you open the group, you can track the status of the header import.
- You can then delete the header download when you have enough.
- Reset the "Download age" back to say 1 day,
- Use Download Age" again on the group to reset the group to the current header state and continue downloading headers normally.

"Download Older X" is working in the next RC. I'm thinking about re-doing the numbers though.

I messed up a group:

[07/11 01:40:19] ERROR Thread Died:

no matter what I do d/l headers remains NEVER

it's not creating storage.db3

also, unrelated: Could you reset my status. I forgot my password and ever since it asks me to answer a challenge question.

Turn on "Show Server Commands" then purge and try the group again. I'm specifically wondering if the group is reporting bad status.

The commands newsbin sends and the responses will show up in the logging tab.

I'm not clear what status you mean. You're posting here so, you're logged in.

It downloaded fine for me.

In the options select "Open Data Folder" then enter "spool_v6" then find this group and rename it to something else "....tvseriers.old"

Then try downloading headers normally and see what happens.

It didn't work. With all my purging, use d/l age, compacting, deleting, recreating group it won't create the Storage.db3. That's why I get the Thread error.

So the folder doesn't even get created? It sure smells like a permissions problem.

As a test you might try running newsbin "As Adminstrator" and see if it works.

It wasn't a permissions problem but I found a work around by turning off Usenet's US groups and downloading their EU groups. Now I need the EU server to update that group's headers. The US groups still don't recognize or fill tvseries.

That's odd because I uses "news.usenetserver.com" to download the headers from that group. Maybe you have an address in there to a bad server.
