AVAST blocking header downloads

How can I stop Avast blocking header downloads. I know it is Avast because when I disable it for 10 minutes the headers download fine. The main downloads are working whether it's enabled or not, just the headers I am having problems with. I have ME and struggle to take information in these days so if someone is kind enough to reply can you answer me like you are trying to educate the village idiot, with step by step help if at all possible.

It probably lumps Usenet with email so the settings are probably in the email filters.

I'd make it ignore Newsbin altogether. You could probably make it work by disabling "XFeatures" in the server advanced options too but that'll slow header downloads significantly.
